Divine Otoo Agorhom, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, has expressed optimism about his party’s chances in the forthcoming December elections, boldly predicting a victorious outcome for the NPP.
Divine Agorhom’s confidence in the NPP’s victory is fueled by the opposition National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) decision to choose John Mahama as their flagbearer, a move he believes is a strategic blunder that will ultimately work in the NPP’s favor.
He labeled John Mahama as a “cool chop” for the NPP in the upcoming December 7 elections, implying that Mahama’s candidacy will make it easier for the NPP to win.
“If you ask me why, I’ll tell you. This is somebody who has been through it all and you expect that he should understand very well what the Ghanaian psyche is. They’ve had enough of you [Mahama], you had your opportunity, and you failed, you know, woefully”.
“They kicked you out of government, you went to stay at home for four years, as it were, repackage yourself, [and] you came back again. They rejected you again and you think that Ghanaians for whatever reason will admit you this time?”
Divine Otoo Agorhom
Despite acknowledging the current economic difficulties, Agorhom stressed that the NPP is proactively addressing the challenges and diligently working to navigate the country towards economic recovery and stability.
Agorhom pointed out that the economic difficulties have given the NDC a misplaced sense of hope, leading them to overestimate their chances and underestimate the NPP’s resilience and determination to overcome the challenges.
“Some six months ago, the posture of the NDC clearly demonstrated a party seeing itself as having won the elections and were only waiting for time”. – Divine Agorhom
However, he disclosed that the political landscape changed dramatically after the NPP flagbearer launched his campaign, garnering widespread support and enthusiasm from Ghanaians, forcing the NDC to reassess their strategy and recalibrate their approach.
NDC Warned Against Self-Destruction
Meanwhile, the former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Joseph Ade-Coker warned that the NDC’s electoral success hinges on avoiding self-destruction and internal strife, cautioning the party not to “play Charles Kele” as it would only hinder their progress and undermine their chances of victory.
Ade-Coker, earnestly urged the party’s leadership to prioritize integrity and unity in the selection of party members for the 2024 general elections, emphasizing the importance of a united and principled approach to the recruitment process.
“This is not the time for grudges and payback. Winning this election is a clarion call. This is not the time for selective allocation of positions without merit”.
Joseph Ade-Coker
Ade-Coker cautioned the party against complacency, urging inclusivity and unity, and warning against projecting overconfidence, which could lead to disappointment and defeat
He emphasized the importance of a unified approach, cautioning against the destructive nature of factionalism and personal biases, which can lead to excluding capable individuals and undermining the party’s collective potential.
He emphasized that victorious elections demand a well-oiled machine, necessitating the active engagement and coordination of all party members, structures, and resources to maximize the NDC’s electoral potential.
Ade-Coker acknowledged that the NDC is up against a formidable force in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he characterized as having diabolic elements’ that would stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power.
Ade-Coker lavished praise on former President John Dramani Mahama, extolling his unwavering dedication and the NDC’s opportunity to leverage the widespread discontent with the current NPP administration’s perceived ineptitude, emphasizing the need to capitalize on this momentum to reclaim power.
Joseph Ade-Coker stressed that the NDC’s winning formula hinges on harmony and a tactical allocation of their assets, expertise, and manpower, underscoring the importance of a united and strategic approach to clinch victory.
