The Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah has launched a blistering attack on Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), raising concerns about its credibility and the integrity of the electoral process ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a series of statements, Dr Omane Boamah expressed deep frustration with the Commission, alleging that it has been marred by numerous errors and failures that undermine Ghana’s democracy.

In his remarks, Dr Omane Boamah derisively referred to the Electoral Commission as the “ERROR-TORAL” Commission, implying that the body has been riddled with mistakes that cannot be overlooked.

He further expressed alarm over what he described as the “illegal transfer of votes” at polling stations, although he did not provide specific details.

He called on the EC to “get serious with serious business” and stop “joking with our treasured democracy,” signaling his frustration with what he perceives as a lack of professionalism and accountability within the institution.

Ballot Statistics and Provisional Voters Register Concerns

Dr. Boamah also took issue with the Electoral Commission’s reliance on the Provisional Voters Register for ballot statistics, suggesting that the body’s actions have been riddled with serious errors, not merely mistakes.

His critique highlighted the potential consequences of the EC’s perceived incompetence on the overall election process. “You’re not even ashamed of the many ERRORS, not mistakes, you’ve committed as a Commission. Such that ballot statistics are based on the Provisional Voters Register...” he stated.

The Director of IT and Elections lamented the state of the EC, warning that “the future is indeed pregnant” and foretelling a “day of accountability” that is fast approaching.

Call for Support for John Dramani Mahama

In a rallying call to Ghanaians, Dr Omane Boamah, the former Minister of Communications under erstwhile Mahama’s administration urged voters to support NDC’s presidential candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, praising his leadership and vision to turn the country around.

He emphasized former President Mahama’s 24-hour economy initiative, which he said would create well-paying jobs for Ghanaians, and portrayed Mahama as the man with the experience to fight corruption and recover looted assets.

“Vote John Dramani Mahama for well-paying jobs through the 24-hour economy initiative,” he encouraged, urging citizens to hold the EC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable.

He called on Ghanaians to “keep #EAGLEEYES on the ERROR-TORAL (Electoral) Commission and the NPP,” making it clear that his criticisms extended beyond the EC to the governing party.

Earlier Warnings on the Voters Register and National Issues

In an earlier remark, Dr. Omane Boamah raised further alarm about the state of the 2024 voters register, linking it to broader national issues such as galamsey (illegal mining) and Ghana’s football match against Sudan.

His statement, titled “Of Ghana-Sudan, Galamsey, and the Sick Voters Register,” conveyed a sense of urgency regarding the forthcoming elections and the unresolved challenges plaguing the country.

The Electoral Commission has announced that it will release the certified voters register in November, but Dr Omane Boamah expressed doubts about its reliability, cautioning voters to stay vigilant.

“Please dial *711*51# to check your details on the 2024 voters register which is still going through therapy to be fit for purpose,” he advised, sarcastically alluding to the state of the voters register.

Despite the deep frustrations voiced in his posts, Dr. Omane Boamah urged Ghanaians not to give up on the country.

He appealed to the public to believe in former President John Dramani Mahama’s ability to correct the course and restore faith in the democratic process.

“Do you feel like giving up? No! Don’t give up on Ghana!” he exclaimed, pushing the narrative that change is possible under former President Mahama’s leadership.

He called on voters to stay engaged and vigilant, keeping their eyes on the actions of both the Electoral Commission and the NPP as the 2024 elections approach.
