Former President, John Dramani Mahama.

Former President, John Dramani Mahama.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed the crucial nature of the 2024 election for his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting the election is not going to be a joke.

Interacting with delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Dormaa East on Monday, March 13 as part of his campaign to be elected flagbearer of the NDC, he urged the supporters of the party to be extra vigilant in the next general election to ensure for the party.

“Open your eyes at the polling stations like eagle eyes. We know that you all have children who have been educated, we want you to release them to us so that we train them five times before we vote. This 2024 election is not a joke, it is boot to boot, it is do-or-die.”

The former President’s second day of his tour of the Bono Region will see him take his campaign to the Dormaa West, Dormaa Central, Dormaa East, Sunyani West and Sunyani East constituencies.

On his first day, Mr. Mahama visited and interacted with branch and constituency executives as well as chiefs and party supporters in Wenchi, Tain, Banda, Jaman North and South, Berekum West and Berekum East.

Addressing the delegates, the former president thanked the party and executives for their support and endorsement. He however asked them to convert the support into massive votes for him in the May 13, 2023, presidential primaries.

Mr Mahama assured the party, especially the branch executives, that he will continue to support and finance the party’s activities and prepare the grounds actively for a successful 2024 campaign.

He further tasked the constituency and regional executives to make a commitment to run an effective campaign that drills down to the branches, and also “make available to the branches campaign materials and logistics that are dispatched for the work”.

LPG founder casts aspersions on re-election of Mahama as President

Meanwhile, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) Percival Kofi Akpaloo has insisted former president John Dramani Mahama has no chance to be re-elected as President of Ghana. He described the former president as a non-starter who has no capacity to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2024 polls.

Mr Akpaloo accordingly implored the NDC delegates to reject him in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries. He iterated that the former president has no chance to come back to power to rule Ghana.

“I don’t think John Mahama can win the 2024 elections. I’m even not sure his name could appear on the ballot paper. Those who are chanting Mahama’s comeback are all NDC members who believe that they can get the opportunity to milk Ghana again, they are not well-meaning Ghanaians who want development.”

Kofi Akpaloo

Mr Akpaloo opined that the Liberal Party of Ghana is winning the 2024 general elections to form the next government to transform Ghana. He thus entreated the voting populace to massively vote for him as the next President since the two major political parties have failed Ghanaians.

Prior to this, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Justin Kodua Frimpong, requested former President John Dramani Mahama to desist from acting in ways as though he is desperate for political power. He indicated the 2024 general elections will be on the “record” of the governing NPP.

Speaking to executives of the party in the Ayawaso North Constituency in Accra, he emphasized that the 2024 elections is going to be on records and that is why it is charging the party’s supporters to make sure that wherever they go they should inform the good people of Ghana about the NPP’s records.
