PNC Lacks Integrity- PNP

People's National Convention

Eleven regional branches of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have severed ties with the party to form a new party called the People’s National Party (PNP), citing the lack of integrity in the PNC’s rank-and-file as their reason for parting ways with the party.

Madame Janet Asana Nabla, a founding member of the new PNP and former General Secretary of the PNC, has disclosed that the leader of the PNC, David Asibi Ayindenaba Apasera, has taken the NEC of the PNC to court multiple times.

She noted, however, that the court has instructed the party to resolve its issues internally using the party’s mechanisms.

“He kept sending us to court until a court ruled on the issue recently… Then he called a NEC meeting and in PNC, a meeting is not described as NEC unless there are nine regional chairmen present… He suspended me in that meeting where there were only four regional chairmen”.

Moreover, she made it clear that the eleven regions that decided to break away from the PNC expressed their dissatisfaction with the court’s decision and felt that they were treated unfairly, indicating that they strongly disagreed with the judgment of the court, which reinstated David Apasera as the leader of the PNC.

She noted that the regions that parted ways with the party believed that the court’s verdict went against their expectations and undermined their interests. They had expected a fair and equitable outcome, but the court’s decision did not address their grievances. As a result, the regions felt that they had no choice but to distance themselves from the PNC.

According to her, the People’s National Congress (PNC) has almost ceased to exist as a political entity. She highlighted that with eleven regional branches of the party boycotting its activities, the party’s support base has dwindled significantly. She further emphasized that this lack of followership will have a significant impact on the party’s ability to have any impact during the upcoming election.

PNC Accepts Members’ Decision

Meanwhile, the Communications Officer of the PNC, Mr. Ishaq Awudu, indicated that every member of the party has the freedom to decide on resigning from the PNC. He highlighted that Madame Janet Nabla has every right to make the decision to leave the party along with some of the members who were easily manipulated to create a new political party, PNP.

He indicated that the PNC remains unfazed by this development, as the party still has support from members in other regions.

According to him, the PNC has a diverse membership base and is not reliant on any single region for its political strength.

He emphasized that the party will continue to work towards its goals, with or without the support of these regions, and remains committed to serving the needs and interests of all its members across the country.

“Indeed, I have said elsewhere that this particular news is aching to a rotten or diseased tooth in the mouth unless that particular tooth is removed, the mouth will always have to chew with caution. Janet and her group represent that rotten tooth in the mouth of the PNC”

He made a serious allegation against Janet Nabla and the other members, claiming that their actions had caused instability within the PNC.

He believes that these individuals were responsible for impeding the party’s progress and preventing it from moving forward.

He further emphasized that the news of their departure from the PNC was a positive development, one that would help the party in a significant way. “It comes as freedom to us” he added.

He indicated that as a result of the departure of Madam Janet Nabla and her followers, the keys to the party headquarters which has been locked for a while now due to the tussle in the party have finally been released to the leadership of the PNC.
