Eleven National Executive Committee members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have resigned from the party to form a new political entity christened the People’s National Party (PNP).
The decision according to the group was triggered by a contentious High Court ruling on April 8, which reinstated David Apasera as the party’s leader but upheld the suspension of General Secretary Janet Nabla over allegations of gross misconduct, insubordination, and incompetence.
Sulemana Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the newly formed People’s National Party minced no words in articulating the group’s disappointments with the current People’s National Convention’s leadership, citing allegations of misconduct and lack of credibility.
Mr Seidu speaking at a press briefing held in Accra on Wednesday, April 17 2024 expressed the group’s inability to operate under a leadership that he noted lacked integrity and credibility, particularly in the wake of the revered legacy of their founder, Dr. Hilla Limann.
“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision to leave the People’s National Convention (PNC) and form our party, the People’s National Party (PNP).
“The decision to depart from the PNC comes as a result of the fact that we disagree with the ruling of the high court of 8th April 2024 for reinstating individuals whom we believe were rightfully dismissed from leadership positions due to financial malfeasance and misconduct”

Furthermore, the Interim General Secretary of the newly formed People’s National Party Suleman Seidu went on to emphasize that the dissenting National Executive Committee members, representing eleven out of sixteen regions, could not in good conscience condone the governance of the party by individuals perceived to be bereft of integrity and credibility.
He indicated that the foundational principles upon which the new People’s National Party will be built and operate would be honesty, integrity, and transparency to reaffirm the unblemished ethos of Dr. Hilla Limann, the former leader of the People’s National Convention.
PNP Commits to Winning Political Power
Commenting on the newly formed party’s preparation towards the December 7 polls, Mr Siedu underscored the paramount importance of credibility in the party’s quest to capture political power from the two main political parties in the country, the ruling New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.
He strongly asserted that the People’s National Party shall be a bastion of unwavering commitment to the principles of honesty, integrity and transparency in championing the ideals and ethos of the Dr Hilla Limann.
Moreover, Suleman Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the newly formed People’s National Party in a rallying call to Ghanaians solicited steadfast support as the party embarks on its maiden political campaign to win power to restore the fortunes of the country as well as realizing the country’s welfare and the values enshrined by Dr. Hilla Limann.
In addition, Mr Seidu mentioned the names of all the interim executives of the People’s National Party and further posited that their appointment marked a significant milestone in the newly formed party’s trajectory.
The interim executives of the People’s National Party according to Mr Seidu include Janet Nabla, the former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention, who assumed the mantle of National Chairman within the PNP’s hierarchy.
Complementing Madam Janet Nabla’s leadership is Francis Oppong, who would serve as the Vice Chairman, with Sulemana Seidu assuming the role of General Secretary, who shall be deputized by Abdul Kadri Issah, and a cohort of other key appointments within the party’s organizational framework.
