President Akufo-Addo has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of “Yelemanga Naa”, to wit, “Chief of Truth” at a brief durbar in Issa by the Chiefs and people of Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Traditonal Area.
According to the Paramount Chief of the area, Naa Yelekuang Bawiele, the honour is a recognition of the extensive developmental projects undertaken by the President, since he assumed office in 2017. This, he indicated, is an adherence to the promises made to the people of the area during the electioneering campaign period.
The conferral was done when President Akufo-Addo visited the town to inspect the progress of work on the Agenda 111 Hospital Project in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, as part of his two-day tour of the Upper West region.
Addressing the gathering on the completed and ongoing projects in the area, Naa Yelekuang Bawiele, revealed that the community requested that government hastened the process to upgrade the Issa Health Centre, which was then a CHPS Compound, to a district hospital. With this, he stated that the centre has been upgraded to a Polyclinic status since 2019.
“This is the first in the history of the district since its creation in 2012 as the district had neither a district hospital nor a polyclinic. You (President Akufo-Addo) promised to provide the Issa Youth Leadership Training Institute with a bus, and you did exactly that, and the school has now been upgraded into a Technical Institute under TVET.”

The Chief highlighted that through the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, the District Assembly, led by the DCE in collaboration with the Catholic Church, has established a Senior High School some two years ago.
Commenting on roads infrastructure, Naa Yelekuang Bawiele revealed that the chiefs also requested for the tarring of the Issa Town Roads, which government has delivered. Additionally, he noted that “the district capital now has a tarred road and more importantly Fian-Wogu road, Issa Kojokperi – Wahabu – Wellembelle roads” are also under construction.
“We are also aware of your government’s collaboration with the European Union to construct some roads and markets in the district. Notable amongst them are the Fian-Owlo-Daffiama-road, Wogu-Saamanbo road amongst others. You all know Chiefs do not participate in partisan politics. All that I have said is devoid of political interest but facts that can be verified.”

President Akufo-Addo, on his part, assured them of his resolve to ensure that needed developmental projects are equitably distributed across the country, including the Upper West region.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Volta River Authority’s thirteen megawatt (13MW) Solar Power Project, a project whose sod he cut in February 2020.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the Project is the first phase of what will be a twenty-eight-megawatt (28MW) plant at Kaleo. He noted that the project reiterates government’s commitment to diversify further the country’s energy generation portfolio and increase the nation’s renewable energy generation mix.
Speaking at the ceremony in Kaleo, in the Upper West Region, the President indicated that the Kaleo Solar Plant, along with on-going interventions in the area of energy efficiency, use of natural gas for thermal generation, adoption of cleaner cooking solutions, decarbonisation of oil production, amongst others, is helping Ghana accelerate the attainment of her Nationally Determined Contributions, as presented at COP26 in Glasgow, in the United Kingdom.
“The Akufo-Addo Government has invested heavily in the electricity transmission network, which will enable us evacuate more renewable energy through the national grid, to support the extension of electricity to all parts of Ghana. For this reason, Kaleo has a dedicated transmission line that evacuates power from the current and future solar capacity at Kaleo to the GRIDCo substation at Wa.”
