Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Nana Oye Bampoe (nee Lithur), has asked President Akuffo Addo to resign if he cannot give Ghanaians hope when it comes to the current economic crisis the country is experiencing.
Her comment adds to the several calls for the President to put in more efforts in bettering the economy, to prevent any unexpected event from happening.
“He must give us hope and tell us how he is going to solve this problem, otherwise he should get off the seat; I mean he should resign and get someone to do the job.
“He has not given out any single word of hope or anything to make us have hope that there is a solution to help solve the situation. He is not serious with his leadership”

According to the former Minister,the country is in a dire economic situation with citizens feeling the brunt of the hardship. She added that the economy of Ghana is in a mess as the constant depreciation of the local currency is evidence of the economic crisis
“People are dying, people are hungry, people are stressed out and the economy of Ghana has collapsed. We are in a dire situation, and we have only one country”

Speaking in a media interview on Thursday October 20, Nana Oye mentioned that the President has failed and cannot perform as there are clear signs of his incompetency in his second term on the presidential seat.
She expressed disappointment in the President emphasizing on his inability to make the economic situation in the country much better but rather making comments that are rising tempers.
Signs of 1948 Riot
Madam Oye indicated that the triggers that led to the historic 1948 riots in Accra, some 74 years ago, can be seen across the county.
She added that the same anger that fueled the 1948 protests is lying in a wait, hence the need for government to urgently address the economic crisis.
“If you remember the 1948 riots, it seems like we are just seeing replayed. Where the traders were up in arms about the high cost of living and shops were closed.”

She further added that the recent incidents of booting the President at public functions are disturbing development which reflects the displeasure of the populace.
Madam Oye further advised Ghanaians to exercise patience and be calm.
