In a bold step toward fulfilling key promises outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq. as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
The appointment, announced in a statement from the Presidency on Thursday, January 16, 2025, charged Mr Gyamfi with spearheading the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Operating under the supervision of the Minister for Finance, the Ghana Gold Board will oversee the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources.
The initiative aims to formalize the small-scale gold mining sector, a critical area in Ghana’s mining industry, while providing much-needed mining support services.
The establishment of the GoldBod underscores the administration’s commitment to maximizing the country’s mineral wealth for the benefit of its citizens.
With gold being a critical revenue source, the initiative is expected to introduce transparency and efficiency in its management and marketing, addressing long-standing challenges in the sector.
Sammy Gyamfi: A Profile in Leadership and Expertise
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. A lawyer and economic policy analyst, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Laws from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
He further holds a Barrister at Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law and a Master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana. As an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School, he completed executive certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership programs.
Professionally, Mr. Gyamfi has garnered valuable experience in the mining sector, having previously worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a prominent mining firm in Ghana. His political acumen as the National Communications Officer of the NDC has also solidified his reputation as a strategic thinker and leader.
Appointment of Acting CEO for National Lottery Authority
In a related development, President Mahama has also appointed Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
The appointment, made pursuant to Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722), is effective January 15, 2025.

The President’s decision is pending the constitutionally mandated advice of the NLA Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission. In the interim, Mr. Abdul-Salam is expected to bring his expertise to bear in steering the operations of the NLA.
Both appointments underscore President Mahama’s strategic focus on appointing skilled professionals to lead key state institutions.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Presidential Spokesperson, commended Mr Gyamfi for his new role, while a separate letter from Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, congratulated Mr. Abdul-Salam.
