Honorable Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso, has stated that the nation does not want a Special Prosecutor that engages in article writing as against his actual job as a prosecutor.
Speaking on his expectation of the Special Prosecutor nominee, Kissi Agyebeng,;he indicated that article writing is not the role of the prosecutor.
“If you look at Act 959, it clearly states the role of the Special Prosecutor. We do not want a Special Prosecutor that engages in article writing and vents his anger easily in the media. That for me is not the role of the Special Prosecutor because this is a position where you will be stepping on a lot of toes and you will be taking on people in the political space.
“It will involve people who are well to do and people who are in the political space;and so it’s important that you have a tough skin and you are able to insulate yourself from the various attacks that will be coming to you.”
Davis Opoku

He disclosed that he was impressed with Kissi Agyebeng’s performance yesterday and believes when he’s given;the mandate, he will deliver as the next Special Prosecutor.
He further expressed satisfaction with Kissi Agyebeng’s suggestions regarding his office and how he intends to set it up.
“The very act that establishes the office has set close to about 4 different administrative areas and he intends to add two which he is mandated to do that.”

Agyebeng’s policies to bring systemic changes
Mr. Davis Opoku also intimated that Mr. Agyebeng’s policies show clearly somebody who wants to move beyond what is defined,;to want to bring on board systemic changes.
He averred that looking at the policies he wants to put in place,;his background with regards to experience as a criminal lawyer, he will be a good Special Prosecutor.
“He is dwelling on not just the prosecutorial powers he’s been given. But he moving a step further to ensure that corruption becomes not quite interesting to institutions, is for me a plus.
“Yesterday he talked about the fact that he is going to set up what he calls pressure for progress where we will have the corruption perception index.”

Kissi Agyebeng will succeed

“I think that I see a calmer demeanor and for me that is what will win the day for Kissi Agyebeng.
“It is not about how robust, how loud you sound when it comes to corruption related matters. I think that the first prosecutor came with his own expectations; he has given his reasons for which he didn’t perform and I am not in a position to challenge those position.”
Francis-Xavier Sosu
