We have not given up our efforts to reduce the hardship pf Ghanaians to a bare minimum.

MP for Okaikwei North Constituency, Issah Fuseini

MP for the Okaikwei North constituency, Issah Fuseini, has stated that the government has not given up on its efforts to make sure that the hardship on Ghanaians is reduced to a bare minimum.

With reference to the President’s speech a few days ago concerning the current economic hardships in the country, Hon. Fuseini said that he was particularly pleased when the President stated that government was not going to take measures that are only going to solve short-term issues.

“We are not going to take measures just to resolve the short- term challenges that we have. When you take short term challenges, one of the solutions is to go to the IMF like he decided in July. That is what we have been following up on and he gave an update on our negotiation or our engagements with the IMF and that, it’s going well.”

Issah Fuseini

In a panel discussion on the New Day Show, he declared that it was good to hear from the President about the updates and information about the ongoing negotiation with the IMF, adding that the President outlined some policies that would benefit the country on a long -term basis if the people accede to these policies.

According to the MP, amongst these policies announced by the President, was the ban on the importation of certain goods. He intimated that the President did not want to bore the people with the details of the policy because it may sound scary and confusing to most Ghanaians.

“These were broad policy headlines and in the coming weeks, we are going to have the details come up. Particularly, we are in the month of November and sometime in the next two-three weeks, we expect the minister of finance to go to parliament with our fiscal policy for the ensuing year.”

Issah Fuseini

Hon. Fuseini indicated that GUTA and other factions have been to important meetings, trying to see how best they can place themselves in the policy announcements given by the President.

Nobody Disbars Anyone From Looking At Possible Outcomes

In the same discussion, Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for the Tamale North Constituency, stated that no one prevents anyone from looking at possible outcomes with regards to the current economic hardships the country is facing.

He said that no one is disallowed to analyze and consider alternative outcomes and if people were talking of the possible outcomes, it would be unfair to describe those people as the ones responsible for the panic.

Hon. Alhassan stated that the President missed the opportunity to calm nerves and speak clearly about the problems the country was facing.

“He missed a very big opportunity because the people of Ghana were anxious and the people of Ghana were expectant of a certain level of clarity about our situation and how we were going to come out of that.”

Alhassan Suhuyini

Hon. Alhassan noted that this government thinks that the problems that the country is facing could be fixed with motivational speeches, but according to him, it was beyond that.

“This government thinks that motivational speeches can fix a problem like this; this is not a problem that motivational speeches resolve. He needed like I said, to be clear so that it does not require people coming to explain to us what he meant.”

Alhassan Suhuyini

He admitted that the President came into power with a lot of goodwill and inherited a lot of assets and liabilities as well.
