The former President of Ghana and the current flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has said that a new government of the NDC will investigate all allegations of corruption by appointees of President Akuffo Addo notable amongst them are the Agyapa mining royalty deal and the PDS scandal.
“Ghanaians deserve to know what happened because assets of state-owned Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) was handed over to a privately owned Power Distribution Services(PDS) following which they collected huge sums of money, running onto millions of dollars which have not been accounted for.”
According to a press statement from the party, the flag bearer in a media interaction described the Agyapa mining deal as “shady” saying he
“wondered why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had mortgaged Ghana’s gold royalties to a private company in which the state has 51 per cent stake and some faceless individuals, 49 per cent.”

He further went on to say that President Akuffo Addo and his government have “lost the fight against corruption” due to the fact that many corruption cases have not been properly investigated and his government upon assumption of office will immediately investigate the mentioned cases.
“The President is not willing to fight corruption. Depending on who you are in his administration, you can do whatever you want and get away with it because he will personally clear you and say that nothing untoward has happened.
“Our people are tired of corruption, it demotivates them and they want that leader who is in office, who will not only investigate former appointees but also investigate people who engage in corruption in this era.”
This statement is in relations with government’s creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Agyapa Royalties Limited, under the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act to maximize the mineral royalties received by government from mining companies.
