Benard Antwi-Boasiako, New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, has directed all constituency chairmen within the region to remove all posters of the former member of the party, Alan Kyerematen from their offices.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman, popularly called Chairman Wontumi, gave the directive in a memo following the resignation of Mr. Kyerematen from the New Patriotic Party.
“In view of Hon. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect.”

The Regional Chairman, Mr Antwi-Boasiako argued that the former Trade Minister, Mr Kyerematen has lost all other rights including the display of his branded items at the party’s offices following his resignation. “Once he has forfeited his membership, it is just right and fair that these items are removed from our offices”, he argued.
Alan Resigns from NPP
Alan Kyerematen, who has been a member of the party since 1992, withdrew from the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Conference slated from November, 2023 on grounds of violence attacks his supporters had suffered. In his withdrawal from the fierce race for the next flagbearer of the party, he indicated that he will inform the nation of his political future later.
Mr Kyerematen later announced his resignation in Accra at a press conference. The former Trade Minister’s decision came at the back of his realization that his contributions were no longer needed in the party. Also, he alleged that his followers had since 2008 suffered violence and brutality from government cronies.
On Monday, 25th September, 2023 he announced his resignation and intention to contest the 2024 General Elections as an independent candidate.
“I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”

In addressing the press at a long-awaited forum to tell the nation his future in Ghana’s politics, he indicated that the NPP has little semblance to the party he joined in 1992. He mentioned that the party has been hijacked by government apparatchiks, hence his breakaway.
He further indicated that the just-ended Super Delegates Conference was skewed in favour of one candidate. This and other issues of violence and brutalities arising from the NPP Super Delegates Conference in August has made it clear to the former Trade Minister to resign from the party.
He argued that despite his attempts to get the attention of the leadership of the party to resolve the situation, little has been done till now. He believes that the super delegates primaries was clearly skewed against him in favor of another particular candidate he did not name.
“It was absolutely clear … that the super delegates conference was strategically and tactically skewed, maneuvered in favour of one particular candidate.”

He further assured the members of the party that his resignation will not destroy the party but create an opportunity participate in a government of national unity.
“My decision to contest as an independent candidate will not destroy the party but rather provide the party an opportunity to participate in a government of national unity in the future, and avoid the risk of going into opposition with no dividends, in what arguably will be a difficult general election in 2024.”
Mr. Kyerematen has thus formed a movement, Movement for Change with butterfly as its symbol, which is set to deliver to him his presidential ambitions.
