The Volta region, a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has consistently voted for the party in elections.
However, despite the region’s unwavering loyalty, it continues to suffer from significant development deficits, failing to reap the benefits of progress.
The next NDC government needs to prioritize development in the Volta region, not only as a reward for their loyalty but also to address the region’s development gaps.
Accordingly, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the NDC has revealed that the party has devised a comprehensive development strategy for the Volta region, aimed at addressing its socio-economic challenges.
According to Omane Boamah, the incoming NDC administration plans to transform the Ho Airport into a state-of-the-art training hub, complemented by the establishment of a certified maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility.
“[The next NDC government will] revive abandoned ranches, farms, and meat factories with particular attention to the Aveyime rice farm and Adidome facilities; Construct a modern market in Aflao; Support fish industry productivity by constructing a modern inland fish terminal or market at Kpando Torkor”.
“Establish modern fish harbor or landing sites and market complexes with smoking, processing, and storage facilities in towns such as Aflao and Sogakope”.

The NDC plans to construct, rehabilitate, and expand water supply systems in Ho and its surrounding communities, ensuring sustainable and equitable access to clean and safe water.
This initiative, according to Omane Boamah, will also involve upgrading the Sogakope Trans-Boundary Water System, as well as the Ho, Kpeve, and Hohoe Water facilities, to improve water services in the region.
The NDC plans to collaborate with private sector entities to develop and operate the Port of Keta in the Volta region, unlocking economic potential and creating opportunities for growth in the Volta, Oti, Northern, and parts of the Savannah regions.
Eastern Corridor Road Project Gets NDC’s Attention
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah announced that the next NDC government will undertake the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road, spanning from Tema through Asikuma to Hohoe and extending further.
Dr. Omane Boamah announced plans to construct key inter-regional roads, including the Keta-Denu-Ho-Have-Kpando-Worawora-Dambai route and the Asikuma-Anum-Dzemeni road, to enhance connectivity and facilitate economic growth across regions.
He further announced that the NDC government will conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of constructing bypasses in Hohoe and Kpando, aimed at enhancing transit trade and reducing congestion in these critical transportation hubs.
“[The NDC will] Facilitate investments by the Minerals Commission in natural salt production at Keta to expand capacity and also find markets for the product in Nigeria and other countries; Facilitate the construction of trauma centers, clinics, rest stops and other social amenities along the Accra – Aflao and Tema – Afienya – Ho corridors”.
