The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Hon Sam George Nartey, insists on his previous social media claim that Voter ID Cards will be accepted for the registration of SIM cards, despite clarification from the National Communications Authority(NCA).

In a statement issued and signed Today, November 7, Mr George maintained that the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has through the National Communications Authority engaged with the Telcos to adapt the platform to accommodate the Voter’s ID Card.

According to him, there are plans to integrate the Ghanaian Passport in line with the Minister’s earlier directive for Ghanaians abroad.

Replying to the statement issued by the NCA on Saturday, November 5, the lawmaker said, “this incontrovertible fact is contained in their very own release.”

“Why they seek to run away from what they themselves have been quietly advising the Minister on can only be down to cheap patronage.”

Mr. George noted that the details in the statement from the Authority clearly backed his earlier claims on Saturday, November 7.

“They admit that this discussion has been had and processes for implementation are underway. They actually corroborate my point and give legitimacy to the essence of my social media posts.”

The Ningo Prampram lawmaker said that, it is indeed shocking and sad that some of the country’s finest Engineers and Lawyers have reduced themselves to puppets of a delusional puppeteer who has absolutely no understanding of technology deployment and whose ego is larger than her knowledge of the sector.

These distinguished professionals at the National Communication Authority, he said, have allowed themselves to become conduits for unintelligent babble instead of industry best practice.

“For how long would they allow the Ministry to strangulate the Authority in the proper function of its duties?”

Statement From National Commmunication Authority

National Communications Authority (NCA) on Saturday, November 5, refuted claims that the Voter ID Card will be accepted for the registration of SIM Cards.

It made known that for now “Ghana Card remains the only ID for the current SIM registration exercise.

In a statement issued and signed on Saturday, the NCA said it has not issued any such directives to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) providers.

This followed a claim by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, on his social media pages that Voter’s ID cards can now be accepted as a document for the registration of SIM cards.

The NCA in the statement further disclosed that there had been talks concerning the updating of the SIM registration App to allow a temporary use of Voters ID.

The NCA was responding to posts on social media by Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram and a member of the select committee on Communications.

Sam George, who is one of the people advocating for the ministry to amend the guidelines for the registration and a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications had claimed that voters’ ID Card can now be used for the ongoing SIM registration exercise.
