Medvedev Downplays US-Ukraine Mineral Deal

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman, Dmitry Medvedev.

Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia has stated that the ongoing war in Ukraine is now a global issue.

Speaking in an interview, Medvedev noted, “Europe is losing and the entire world is in tension.”

“If we look at the situation from this perspective, we will see that it, to a certain extent, turns this conflict into an issue of global scale, a conflict of the worlds and an existential conflict for the entire planet as well, which is what many political scientists and politicians have been talking about.”

Dmitry Medvedev

Medvedev claimed that Russia’s opponents in the West are ignoring signals from Moscow and pushing everyone towards a third world war.

“Frankly speaking, it would have definitely been better if they had heard them [the signals]. In any case, the world would not have to face the threat of World War III,” the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council said.

“In fact, this is where our opponents are actively pushing everyone,” he pointed out.

Moreover, Medvedev stated in the interview that the U.S is currently in a “state of disarray and conflict with itself.”

“In my view, this discord is irreconcilable in a way, and such domestic conflicts often lead to civil wars,” Medvedev noted.

Furthermore, Medvedev noted that Russia-US relations were more pragmatic under Former President Barack Obama.

He made this comment when asked if current U.S President Joe Biden’s policy was similar to that of Obama.

However, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia disclosed that tensions over the situation around Ukraine had emerged between Russia and the U.S in the course of Obama’s presidency.

“Then there was Crimea’s return to Russia and sanctions were introduced,” he said.

“Still, the fact is that as for pragmatism, Barack Obama was more pragmatic than Biden is.”

“It’s clear that the [US] Republican Party is also anti-Russian but there are more pragmatists,” he added.

Attacks Reported In Ukraine And Russia

Meanwhile, two people were killed and another wounded on Saturday, August 26, 2023, when Russian shelling hit a cafe in the village of Podoly, near the town of Kupiansk in Ukraine’s north-eastern Kharkiv region.

Local Governor, Oleh Synehubov stated on Telegram,“The enemy hit a civilian object – a cafe where local residents were spending the day.”

Podoly was occupied shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, but the village was retaken by Kyiv in a counteroffensive last September.

Russian forces have been attempting to push forward on the Kharkiv region front line in recent weeks.

Also on Saturday, Russian state media reported a new drone attack on Moscow.

Russia’s defense ministry and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that a drone was shot down over the Istra district of the Moscow region, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Red Square.

Sobyanin said in a Telegram post that there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.

The drone attack forced an early-morning temporary shutdown of all three major airports serving the city; The Sheremetevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports all suspended flights for over an hour.
