The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has three new additional companies as members. The new members are C-Squared Ghana Ltd, ComSys Ghana Ltd and Huawei Ghana, notably in the development and deployment of telecoms infrastructure.
The new members will be joining three multinational mobile network operators (MNOs) and two other infrastructure companies who are the foundation members of the Chamber established in 2010.
Estelle Akofio Sowah, Country Manager of C-Squared; Jonathan Lamptey the CEO of ComSys; and Tommy Zhou will serve on the Governing Council of the Chamber together with their respective alternates.
The Chamber’s main objective is to support the overall development of the telecommunications and technology industry in Ghana through institutional partnerships and expert contribution to policy, regulation, legislation and public advocacy.
C-Squared and Comsys currently enables MNOs and ISPs to provide high-quality broadband at lower costs through shared infrastructure such as metro fiber, Wi-Fi networks, VSAT services and many more. Huawei is equally a leading global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices to MNOs and individuals.
The Chamber equally wishes to announce the exit of Eaton Towers Ghana from its association at the end of June 2020, following its acquisition by American Tower Corporation (ATC) who is already a member of the Chamber.
CEO of the Chamber, Dr. Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, said “the addition of three major players into the Chamber at this time represents the industry commitment to identify new ways of collaborating without sacrificing competition for the utmost good of the sector.”
He further said that the chamber looks forward to working with the new entrants as well as our current members to advance the next generation of connectivity and digital services for the entire benefit of the ecosystem and Ghana.
Who Are They?
Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. Founded in 1987, Huawei is a private company wholly owned by its employees. With integrated solutions across four key domains – telecom networks, IT, smart devices, and cloud services they are committed to bringing digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world. With more than 194,000 employees, they operate in more than 170 countries and regions.
In Ghana, Huawei registered its subsidiary in 2005. And have since then established excellent cooperation with the government of Ghana, all the telecom operators, businesses and organizations as well as consumers.
CSquared is a project aimed to build metropolitan fiber-optic networks, which would be leased by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on a wholesale model, and as a neutral operator of shared infrastructures.
The long-term vision for Google is to increase Internet penetration in Sub-Saharan Africa and also to reduce Internet access costs by investing in the required infrastructure. As the internet is a global lever for development, the lease/partnership of a wholesale last-mile fiber network would ultimately carry many secondary benefits.
CSquared currently owns and operates over 890 km of metropolitan fiber in Kampala and Entebbe in Uganda; more than 1070 km of fiber in 3 cities in Ghana: Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Kumasi and 180 km in Monrovia, Liberia.
Comsys Ghana Limited is a fully-owned Ghanaian Telecom and ICT Solution Company having a nationwide presence through reliable microwave, VSAT and fiber networks for delivering its services and solutions.
