Two Hundred and fifty- four staff of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have tested positive for covid-19 since its outbreak in the country.
Out of the total 254 positive cases, 203 out of the number have, recovered and were back at post with one death only recorded.
Chief Executive of the hospital, Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso, told the media in an interaction during a meeting that
“The remaining 50, who are currently in isolation, were at various stages of recovery and would resume work soon”.
Dr Danso also said that
“So far the hospital, which is one of the testing centres in the country, had tested a total of 2,853 samples of which 812, representing 28.4 percent, had tested positive to the virus”.
Four hundred and twenty-one out of the number have recovered while 31 samples tested were currently awaiting results.
He further said
“Although the facility had recorded some COVID-19 deaths, its performance in terms of response and management of the COVID-19, had been successful”.
He therefore appealed to the public to strictly adhere to all the preventive protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service to combat the spread of the disease in the country.
The meeting was to update the media on the state of the hospital, the second largest health facility in the country, in the fight against covid-19.
According to the Ghana health Service, 2,065 health workers have tested positive for Covid-19 since the coronavirus outbreak began.
Some days ago, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said six health workers who had been infected had died, but 1,870 others had recovered with rest receiving treatment at isolation centres.
The Greater Accra region, which includes the capital city, has recorded the highest number of infections among health workers.
The authorities say they are providing more protective gear to health facilities to reduce the infections.
Ghana currently has 28989 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 25,331 recoveries and 153 deaths.
