President Akufo-Addo commissions €14.5 million sixty bed hospital facility at Weta

President Akufo-Addo, has commissioned a €14.5 million sixty bed hospital facility at Weta, in the Ketu North District.

According to the President, the hospital is one of six medical facilities whose construction commenced three years ago and was constructed by Vamed Engineering GmbH of Austria at a cost of eighty million euros (€80 million), with funding provided by Raiffesen Bank of Austria.

Other five (5) hospitals includes the 80-bed district hospital at Somanya in the Eastern Region; the 80-bed district hospital at Buipe, the 60-bed hospital at Sawla, and the 30-bed polyclinic at Bamboi, all located in the Savannah Region along with the 60-bed hospital at Tolon in the Northern Region.

Speaking at the commissioning, President Akufo-Addo said, “all of these facilities are completed, and will be duly commissioned by the end of November this year”.

He further revealed to the gathering that hospital is fitted with an administration department; outpatient and emergency department; inpatient wards for male, female and paediatrics; obstetrics and gynecology (maternity and child health); surgery including an intensive care unit; physiotherapy unit; pharmacy; diagnostic services including x-ray, laboratory, and ultrasound; logistics buildings housing the CSSD, laundry, hospital stores maintenance workshops and power station, and medical gases production unit; mortuary; staff facilities including dining areas, changing facilities and housing units for critical staff.

 “To address the issues of maintenance and sustainability, the project scope included a two-year post-completion maintenance and training programme. I will entreat the Ghana Health Service to liaise with the Contractor’s maintenance team to maintain effectively the hospital, and ensure that, after this period, maintenance works on this hospital are carried out routinely”.

Commenting on government’s resolve in providing quality healthcare, the president expressed his confidence on the completion of projects in Somanya, Tolon, Sawla, Buipe, Bamboi and Weta which will improve Infrastructural facilities.

 “I am delighted and honoured by your presence here, and I assure you that this project is a sign of greater things to come for Weta, Ketu North and, indeed, for the whole nation. Government’s commitment to the total development of Ghana is absolute”.

President Akufo-Addo begun a three-day working visit to the Volta and Oti Regions on Tuesday 20th October, which is billed to end on Thursday, 22nd October, 2020.

Beginning in the Volta Region, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Naval Training Command at Agorta-Nutekpor in the South Tongu constituency, and proceeded to the Central Park to attend a durbar of Chiefs and people of Afife in appreciation of his enstoolment in 2017 as a Chief of the traditional area.

Today, Wednesday, 21st October,2020,  President Akufo-Addo is expected to inspect the ongoing construction of the Nkonya-Kwamikrom road at Nkonya in the Biakoye Constituency, the Jasikan-Dodi-Pepeso road in the Buem constituency, and the Nkwanta North-Nkwanta South road in Kpassa in the Nkwanta North constituency.

He will later cut the sod for the Regional Directorate of the Youth Employment Agency at Yabram.

On Thursday 22nd October, the President will inspect work on the Kete Krachi Town Roads in the Krachi West constituency. He will also commission the Nandi Junction-Dordo Kope road and the Krachi-Banda road at Borae Junction in the Krachi Nchumuru constituency.

President Akufo-Addo will also attend a meeting with the Oti Regional House of Chiefs at Dambai, cut sod for the NYA Youth Resource Centre there, and end the 3-day work in the two regions with a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of the Zoomlion Waste Recycling and Compost Plant at Yariga No.1 also in the Krachi East constituency of the Oti region.
