Three out of the fourteen persons who sustained various degrees of injuries at the Mighty Gas filling station last week in the Volta Region have passed on.
New development from a report on a fire outbreak last week, near the Ho Teaching Hospital indicates that, three out of the 14 people who were rushed to the Ho Teaching Hospital after fire gutted the Mighty Gas filling station including commercial vehicle amongst others at the scene on the dawn of Wednesday, November 11, 2020 have lost their lives.
Residents said the sound of the explosion drew their attention to the incident and immediately called personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service. If not for the prompt intervention of the fire department, the fire would have spread to the Ho Teaching Hospital, residents said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Amos Dzah who has been speaking to the media on latest developments with regards to the victims on admission at the hospital said the three victims who died included one female and two males who were at the time admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He also mentioned that, the victims were stable and were receiving treatments as each had sustained various degrees of injuries. However, he stated that, one of the 14 victims developed breathing difficulty and was moved to the Intensive Care Unit. After that, three other developed similar challenge and were also moved to the ICU where three of them lost their lives moments after.
“They were stable and the degree of injuries was varied. But on that same day, one of them was taken to the ICU because he had difficulties in breathing. Subsequently, three of them were also taken to the ICU making four. But unfortunately, we have lost three of the people at the ICU. They are made up of one female and two males.”
He further indicated that, two other critically injured victims have been transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital due to the lack of a Burns and Plastic Center at the Ho Teaching Hospital.
The gas company is still shut down to give way for thorough assessment to be done by the authorities so as to ascertain the cause of the fire. Management of the gas filling station is also expected to begin repairs and improvement of the station.
As at now, the cause of the fire is still unclear.
