PETE EDOCHIE BIDS LATE JERRY RAWLINGS FAREWELL.

As Ghanaians and other Africans pay their last respect to the late former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings, veteran Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie, has also bided the late former President farewell and expressed how he feels about his passing.

In a trending video that is making rounds on social media, Pete Edochie emotionally explained in his perspective what death is. Pete further noted that the death of Rawlings reminds him that death is the ultimate journey of all human beings. The Nollywood actor further said that they will meet again and share jokes and hug each other, in the other world.

“My brother Jerry, your passing has reminded me once more that death is the ultimate destiny of man. I am told by authorities that death is simply the separation of the spirit from the body and that the spirit does not die. For two people who were as close as both of us, I’ll say it’s just a matter of time When my own spirit separates from my body, we shall meet again, we shall smile, we shall hug, and we shall share our jokes. Until then, Goodbye Jerry, goodbye and goodbye”.

The Nigerian actor’s character in movies, as being a strict disciplinarian has been compared to the personality of the former Ghanaian President, and that deepened a relationship between them as friends.

It can be recalled that somewhere in 2017, the Nollywood star was then in Ghana for a Press Conference of Kofas Media’s Movie on corruption in society, which casted leading Ghanaian actors and actresses.

This allowed the veteran actor to have a meeting with Jerry John Rawlings. He revealed that before meeting the former President, several people said he reminded them of Rawlings, even to the extent that Jerry John’s daughters agreed that there was indeed some resemblance between them.

“I agree with people who say we have the resemblance, because, I know how I look and seeing him here I have no doubt they are right. It appears we have a lot in common”.

Meanwhile on Sunday, during the vigil held in honor of the late former President, Ghanaian songstress, Adina, was brought to her tears whilst performing a tribute song to J.J Rawlings. During her performance, Adina sang Bryan Adams’ ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’ and this brought tears to the eyes of the audience.

Whilst moving the crowd with her emotional performance, Adina couldn’t hold herself either as tears dropped down from her eyes, however, she composed herself and carried on with the performance whilst she kept shaking her head, and turning her back to the audience.

Apart from the Jerry John’s family, some dignitaries who were present at the vigil included Samia Yaba Nkrumah, former Information Minister, Fritz Baffour, and several high ranking members of the Armed Forces.

That aside, a military state burial is scheduled to happen tomorrow, 27th January 2021, at the Black Star Square. Jerry John Rawlings died on 12th November, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
