Ghanaian rapper, E.L has advised his fellow musicians on how to be smart amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with an Accra-based radio station, he mentioned that, musicians shouldn’t only depend on their musical prowess to fetch them money since there are other smart ways of gaining revenue.

“Smart musicians always diversify. You can’t just rely on only one thing to sustain yourself. Musicians are business people, and business people have to think outside the box and have your hands in different things”.

E.L

Speaking further about the impact of COVID 19, he emphasized that the pandemic did not have an impact on him like it did on other musicians. Explaining his reasons for making that assertion, E.L revealed that he has always been someone who enjoys staying indoors and being in his studio recording, and finding other means to make more money. He also mentioned that he was living outside Accra at the initial stage of the pandemic, and so, he didn’t feel the impact of the pandemic.

“To be honest, personally I don’t roam too much and I’m always indoors. So, even when they said there was going to be a lockdown I was asking what lockdown because for me I’m always on lockdown and it is always the same thing for me”.

Meanwhile, the ‘Overdose’ hitmaker noted that one thing he misses is not going out to meet his fans. He explained saying: “I regret the fact that I have not been able to go out there to meet the fans because I have been very paranoid. I am a germophobe, and I have been washing my hands very much. So, when I heard of the virus, the washing of my hands has become very serious. I am just trying to balance it out”.

In the same vein, EL disclosed how he quitted his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue music. According to him, he had the opportunity to climb the ladder in the Ministry. However, he had to abandon that because he had no passion for what he was doing then.

“When I finished school, I was pushed into the ministry of Foreign Affairs and I didn’t have fun doing it. So, I quit. I worked at the Ministry for two years. I was on my way to becoming a Minister or an ambassador but it wasn’t my vibe”.

The ‘Kaluu’ hitmaker posited that he always had the urge to be in the studio as he wasn’t happy being in the office. According to him he quit his job and joined media personality, Jay Foley, to start his career in music.

“Back then, they knew I was deep into making music because, as I was in the office, I had my headphones and I was always writing the lyrics. I always wanted to be in the studio. There was just something about recording songs that I needed to do. So at a point, I just quit my job and said to myself that I can’t do it and that is when I joined Jay Foley in the studio”.
