EPL Weekend Review: Man. City one win away from title

Manchester City needs three more points to win the Premier League title after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park. firstly

Pep Guardiola had made eight changes from the midweek victory at PSG and it showed in the first half as Man City failed to register a shot on target. finally

However, 12 minutes after half-time, Man City took the lead through an emphatic finish from Sergio Aguero into the roof of the net.

Ferran Torres then fired home from in City’s next attack, 83 seconds later, to seal the victory. The result means City could now win the trophy with a victory over Chelsea on 8th May. moreover

Chelsea 2-0 Fulham

Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over London rivals, Fulham, at Stamford Bridge to cement their place in the top four. however

Kai Havertz handed Chelsea a 10th-minute lead with a lofted finish after Mason Mount’s sublime control and through pass. firstly

 The German added his second four minutes into the second half with another composed finish after combining with compatriot, Timo Werner.

The win which marks Chelsea’s 15th victory in all competitions under Thomal Tuchel, sees them move to within two points of third-place Leicester. however,

Tottenham 4-0 Sheffield United

Gareth Bale scored a brilliant hat-trick as Tottenham kept alive their Champions League hopes alive with a 4-0 win over relegated Sheffield United. instead

Bale opened the scoring in the 36th-minute with an instinctive flick from close range. The Welshman added his second after halftime, finishing a sleek Tottenham counter-attacking move. despite

Bale got his hattrick a few minutes after with a fierce strike into Ramdale’s net. Son added the fourth, with a brilliant curler, to complete the rout thirteen minutes from time.

The result means Tottenham move up to fifth, five points behind Chelsea, with just four games left to play. secondly,

Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0 away at the St James’ Park with a dominant display.

The Gunners took the lead inside five minutes of the game through Mohamed Elneny’s first Premier League goal. therefore

Arsenal controlled proceedings after that and added a second midway through the second half with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the scoresheet.

Fabian Schar was;then sent off late in the game for Newcastle after a dangerous tackle on Gabriel Martinelli. The win sees Arsenal rise up to ninth on the league table.

Southampton 1-1 Leicester

Leicester City secured a 1-1 draw away at St Mary’s against 10-man Southampton. however

The hosts saw Jannik Vestergaard shown an early red card for denying Jamie Vardy a clear goalscoring opportunity. The saints however defended brilliantly with 10-men and took the lead after an hour from the penalty spot. Leicester’s striker, Kelechi Iheanacho handled the ball in the box allowing James Ward-Prowse to step up and beat Kasper Schmeichel from 12 yards.

The Saints’ lead lasted only seven minutes as Iheanacho redeemed himself by finding Evans with a cross from the corner of the area, which was powered home by the experienced centre-back.

Everton 1-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa managed to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Everton at the Goodison Park.

Ollie Watkins’ 13th Premier League goal of the season put Villa ahead after a mistake from Mason Holgate. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, however, equalized soon after for Everton, with a powerful header from Lucas Digne’s corner.

With the game headed for a draw, El Ghazi curled a shot into the far corner to clinch an eighth Premier League away win of the season for Dean Smith’s side.

Brighton 2-0 Leeds

Brighton secured a convincing 2-0 win over Leeds that took them 10 points clear of Fulham in the relegation battle.

The hots opened the scoring in the first half after Danny Welbeck was fouled inside the penalty box by Ezgjan Alioski. The penalty was coolly converted by Pascal Gross.

After missing a couple of chances, Welbeck skillfully fired the ball into the bottom corner for Brighton’s second to ease any relegation fears.

Manchester United vs Liverpool postponed after anti-Glazer fan protests at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s Premier League game against Liverpool at Old Trafford was postponed following protests against owners, the Glazer family.

Hundreds of fans got into the stadium ahead of the behind-closed-doors contest, which was originally scheduled for a 3.30pm on 2nd May. The fixture was initially delayed and then called off completely after deliberations between various stakeholders.

A Manchester United statement noted that “Following discussion between the Police, The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest.

“Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture”.
