Ghanaian gospel singer, Evangelist Diana Asamoah.

Multiple award-winning gospel singer, Diana Asamoah has rendered an unqualified apology for the comments she made about the traditional festival ‘Homowo’, which is celebrated by the Ga people of Ghana.

This follows the singer saying in a Facebook Live video that the strength of God would ensure that very soon the traditional festival would no longer be celebrated in Accra. However, following backlash on social media, the gospel singer has retracted her comments and apologized for her “ignorance”.

Diana Asamoah taking to her Instagram page apologized for what she said. The singer in a one-minute video which she;captioned: “As a person, we all make mistakes, please forgive your daughter, sister, mother, friend. I withdraw my statement made on Facebook live”, apologized to the traditional authorities;and the entire GaDangbe community for speaking against their revered traditional heritage and culture.

She further indicated that she didn’t mean to flare up tempers with;her comment therefore she was asking for the full forgiveness of the entire Ga-Adangbe Traditional Area. More so, she stated that as a Christian she respects the customs;of everyone, pleading with the Ga Mantse, traditional rulers, queen mothers, and;the entire Ga traditional area to forgive her for her unfortunate comments.

Also, Diana Asamoah indicated that she was aware of the press conference that was;organized following her comments and was pleading with them to temper justice with mercy.

Her post was received with several mixed reactions from netizens. Some applauded her for realizing her mistake and quickly apologizing. Others also mentioned that it’s good she apologized the same way she made her comments concerning the festival.

That notwithstanding, some opined that she has become too vocal;on social media, and if she doesn’t take care, she will find herself wanting just like this case.

However, a few social media users who are Ga’s continued to backlash;her and questioned if she could have made the same comments about the Akans. They also emphasized that recording a video to apologize isn’t enough, therefore;she should find her way to the Ga traditional house and properly apologize. Some reactions to Diana’s post read:

Meanwhile, following Diana’s unqualified apology, Nii;Ayafioo Tetteh I said the apology isn’t enough since the Ga Traditional Council has taken over the case.

According to him, she couldn’t have gone to Kumasi to make such “ridiculous comments” about the Asante Kingdom. He further said the era where people insulted Ga’s is over and;also noted that the Ga youth are ready to face off with such “disrespectful persons”.

Also, he mentioned that they respect the Council to deal with the matter and call the musician to order. He iterated that although she has apologized, that has not ended the matter.

Moreover, the GaDangme Youth Association led by Nii Ayaafio Tetteh I, at a press conference yesterday disclosed that the Association had reported the singer’s comments to the Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Adotey Otintor II for action within a week.
