Bio data wouldn’t be taken during second jab- Dr. Amponsa-Achiano

The Programme Manager for the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano has indicated that bio data of qualified persons for the second jab will not be taken.

This, he explained,;is because those details were taken during the first jab and have been saved on their data base. Also

“We are now working with dates. We encourage individuals to come along with the cards that were given to them during the first jab. It is not a problem if they misplaced their cards;or are unable to recollect the date they took their first jabs. We saved their personal information and health records onto our database.”

Speaking on the administration of the second dose set to take place tomorrow,;May 19, 2021, he reiterated that;the criteria for individuals who qualify for the second jab of the vaccine;are those who took it within the first week.

“We are focusing on persons who took the first jab between 1st and 9th March. They should be around the 11th and 12th week.”

According to him, research from the United Kingdom also revealed that;the second jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine is best administered;twelve weeks after the first jab a measure which has been adopted by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Following the arrival of the 350,000 doses of the Covid -19 on Friday May 7, 2021,;the President, Nana Akufo Addo in his measures taken against spread of coronavirus update stated that,;the second phase of the Covid 19 vaccination will commence Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in selected districts.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo further disclosed that government is expecting an additional 300, 000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines to arrive in the country. Also

“We are expecting an additional 300,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines,;which have already been approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), to arrive in the country. 

“As and when we make further progress in the acquisition of vaccines,;the Ministries of Health and Information will make this known to you. We are making all efforts to achieve our overall vaccination target.”

Moreover, Ghana has already taken delivery of 350,000 more AstraZeneca vaccines from;the Democratic Republic of Congo through the COVAX initiative.

Data from the Ghana Health Service indicates that;852,047 vaccines have been administered across the country so far.

According to data by the Ghana Health Service;on the current situation of COVID-19 in the country, a total of 27 new cases have also been recorded, moving the total active cases to 1,298.

Also, the number of recoveries now stands at 91,252;with a total of 783 people passing away from the disease. The total number of cases of the virus confirmed so far stands at 93,333. Also

28 persons according to the GHS data are said to be in severe condition;and 8 persons reportedly in a critical condition. Further
