Prince Harry has teamed up with the renowned television personality, Oprah Winfrey, for a documentary series on mental health.

Titled ‘The Me You Can’t See’, is a multi-part series that explores the topics of mental health and emotional well-being. The series which debuts Friday, May 21, will premiere exclusively on Apple TV+.

In the show, Harry and Oprah will “guide honest discussions about mental;health and emotional well-being while opening up about their mental health journeys and struggles”. The duo will be joined in their discussion by some big names, including;singer Lady Gaga, actress Glenn Close, and NBA player DeMar DeRozan.

“The majority of us carry some form of unresolved trauma, loss, or;grief, which feels very personal,” Harry said in a release. “Yet the last year has shown us that we are all in this together, and I hope that this series will show there is power in vulnerability, connection in empathy, and strength in honesty”.

Medical experts featured in the documentary

It is worth noting that the documentary series also features medical experts and people sharing their personal experiences. Prince Harry in an interview stated that the project will show examples of the “human spirit fighting back from the darkest places”.

“We are assembling subject matter experts as an advisory board to the series, the main reason being we appreciate this is a multi-faceted subject, and we have a huge responsibility to get this right.

“In this process, I’ve already learned just how many studies have been done, and how much information is out there which isn’t reaching the general public. The facts and science exist, and we deserve to know it all”.

Meanwhile, the trailer of the docuseries is out. Shot by BAFTA Award-winning director Asif Kapadia, the two minutes thirty-seven seconds trailer features co-executive producer Oprah Winfrey, Glenn Close, Syrian refugee Fawzi as well as a clip from Princess Diana’s funeral with a closeup of young Prince Harry. Meghan Markle also makes appearances in the trailer with Archie.

In the trailer, Harry hints at his personal struggles with mental health and dealing with loss. He says: “To make that decision to receive help is not a sign of weakness. In today’s world, more than ever, it is a sign of strength.”

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle hasn’t been announced to play a major role in the new documentary, the trailer does offer us a glimpse of her looking casual and classic. In the clip, Meghan is sporting black pants and a white graphic tee emblazoned with the phrase “Raising the Future”.

How much of Meghan will be seen in the series is not yet clear, but both Meghan and Harry have spoken publicly about mental health in the past and the struggles they’ve felt being in the public eye.

That notwithstanding, Oprah has been friends with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for some time now.

She famously attended their royal wedding in May of 2018 and said that: “I can’t wait to see the goodness that will come from their union.

“Goodness that I know for sure will help change the way the world thinks about what is possible, even more than it already has”.
