Defence Minister cautions ‘galamseyers’ against night mining

Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitwul

A social and political commentator, Owula Mangortey, has commended government, especially the Defence Minister, Dominic Nitwul, for acting swiftly to avert a possible clash between the Konkomba and Nanumba tribes in the Northern Region.

Speaking on the move by the Minister, Mr. Mangortey averred that, Mr. Nitwul took the right approach in addressing the issue and lauded the speed at which it was done.

“So, I am very happy to note the swift nature by which government is responding to that. I am impressed and I want to celebrate them for the good works that they have done so far”.

Owula Mangortey

Mr. Mangortey stated that the rumors which led the Defence minister and the delegation to the northern region this Wednesday, November 10, 2021 stemmed from signals of distractions rising from the Konkomba’s and Dagomba’s and Nanumba’s and as such was of great concern and worrying.

He called on the various authorities to see to it that the issue is thoroughly dealt with to prevent any further mishappenings.

“If care is not taken for these issues to be dealt with swiftly by the security and the government, we are likely to have a security problem in the Northern enclave between the Konkombas and Nanumbas”.

Owula Mangortey, who doubles as a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), speaking about northern region projects commended the Akufo-Addo-led government for the various road constructions ongoing in the Northern Region.

“The 73-kilometre road from Tamale to Karaga is being constructed and then they have constructed several culverts. They are constructing more drains. The 21-kilometre of road from Karaga to Gushegu is also being constructed, as well as, the one from Bimbilla to Karaga”.

Defence Ministers’ visit to Dagbon

The Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 led a delegation to the Gbewa Palace of the overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, to have discussions on peace and stability in the area.

The visit follows social media comments on a possible Konkomba, Dagomba, and Nanumba conflict.

The delegation included Parliamentarians from both the Majority and Minority sides. The Minority side was led by James Agalga, MP for Builsa North with Tamale Central MP, Murtala Mohammed, and colleagues from Saboba, Wulensi, and Kpandai.

Dominic Nitiwul, in his address, intimated the government through national security has initiated steps to deal with any attempt to mar the peace in the area. He noted that they were tracking those people peddling such war-mongering information to raise tension and assured that his ministry will deal with them.

He stated that Konkombas, Dagombas, and Nanumbas are brothers and have lived peacefully over the years and so any attempt to distract the peace among these people will be fiercely resisted.

The Minister further warned anybody or group of persons whose publications, discussions, or commentary on the subject matter will seek to influence a possible conflict will be severely dealt with.

He then charged all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives in the Region to help sensitization on peaceful co-existence.
