Glico General Announces Insurance Cover For Black Stars

Black Stars players

Glico General has announced that the black stars’ complete playing body and officials will be covered by a Ghc 2,050,000 personal accident insurance policy during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Tournament.

According to the company, this initiative is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The company underlined the significance of sports in the growth of nations and emphasized the necessity to support it.

“GLICO is pleased to provide for the entire playing body and official contingent with a personal accident insurance cover of over two million cedis.

“The cover will protect the entire contingent against all forms of accidents and particularly for the players, be such accidents occurring on or off the pitch. It is basically a 24-hour cover until the team returns to the shores of Ghana.”

Mr. Andrew Acheampong-Kyei, the Managing Director of GLICO General, averred that the cover would protect the team and its officials from all types of incidents on and off the field. The Managing Director further asserted that the insurance policy will allow the players to concentrate on ensuring that they bring glory to the country without fear of injuries or dangers because the policy protects them from any threats.

Mr. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to perform at the AFCON. President Akufo-Addo, according to the minister, is fully behind the Black Stars and has provided them with all they need to bring the cup home.

“Let me say that in expressing my gratitude to you and GLICO and, on behalf of the Black Stars, this gesture will strengthen their resolve to put up their utmost best and give their best performance at the AFCON.”

“We are confident the Black Stars will make Ghana proud in Cameroon. We thank you for heeding to the president’s call for corporate support for our various national teams.”

Mr. Mustapha Ussif

As a result, the sector minister urged all Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars in their bid to return the cup home. The minister, therefore, implored Ghanaians to include the team in their prayers and support the team in any way possible.

The competition, which kicks off on Sunday at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon, will see the Black Stars play Morocco in a Group C opener on Monday afternoon.
