‘Table of Men’ Chairman, and music producer, Dr. Kwesi Aning Ernest, has demanded an apology from highlife artist, Ofori Amponsah, for insulting gospel musicians.

In an interview, the CEO of Media Excel demanded an unqualified apology from the highlife musician, Ofori Amponsah, for saying most gospel musicians sing stupid songs”.

According to Mr. Aning, he once sat on the radio and expressed disappointment over the kind of music Ofori Amponsah churned out as gospel song.

“The quality was very bad as compared to his secular songs. He [Ofori Amponsah] did most of his life production in Germany. Songs like ‘Otoolege’, ‘Odo Tese Aduro’, why didn’t he do the same for his gospel song?”

Kwesi Ernest further noted that if Ofori was able to produce such a song and call it gospel, then he also “sings trash”.

“If you call ‘Onyame Homhom’ as a gospel song and you went for interviews, then you also sing trash and produce trash”.

It is worth mentioning that ‘Table of men’ is a Christian organization that seeks the interest of the Ghana gospel industry. Kwesi Ernest indicated that he will make sure Ofori apologizes to the entire gospel musicians.

“I, as the chairman of Table of Men, together with my team, will make sure Ofori Amponsah apologizes to all gospel musicians”.

Ofori Amponsah’s comments really sparked a lot of agitations from the gospel music fraternity with most renowned gospel musicians expressing their displeasure at the singer.

One of such people is Gospel artist and radio host, OB Nartey. OB Nartey vowed to start an agenda that will see songs of highlife artiste Ofori Amponsah’s not played on air again.

“I will make it a conscious effort to make sure that no radio station in the country plays Ofori Amponsah’s music because I am disappointed to hear this from him. Someone with such legendary status shouldn’t be making such statements”, says OB Nartey.

OB Nartey who doubles as the Programs Director of Christian-based radio station, Vision 1 FM, indicated that his channel was no exclusion.

Francis Amo has reacted to some disparaging comments made by highlife artist, Ofori Amponsah.

Another person who reacted to Ofori Amponsah’s comment was Ghanaian gospel musician, Francis Amo. He cautioned the highlife musician to be careful about classifying most Ghanaian gospel songs as meaningless. According to him, if Ofori Amponsah is not careful, he will attract curses upon his life and his generation to follow.

Ofori Amponsah himself has had a sheer tour of the Christian Ministry as it can be recalled that he established a church in 2013 after he claimed God had called him to be a pastor. However, he appeared not to have taken the call as his full-time profession as he returned to do secular music.

Speaking in an interview about the u-turn, Ofori Amponsah noted that even though he was called by God to do his work, his calling was not to be a pastor, a reason he came back to secular music.
