We Do Not Expect Elections Will Be Nullified- Kwabena Boateng

Polling station executive, Kwabena Boateng, has revealed that he does not expect polls conducted to elect polling station executives by the New Patriotic Party in the Ejisu Constituency to be nullified.

Polling station executive, Kwabena Boateng, has revealed that he does not expect polls conducted to elect polling station executives by the New Patriotic Party in the Ejisu Constituency to be nullified.

According to him, there is enough evidence to show that due processes were followed in electing these executives. Mr Boateng explained that there is the need to show evidence of irregularities by persons calling for the nullification of the election results.

“The evidence is overwhelming. Any decision that will attempt to nullify the election will not be one that is evidence-based, because these are the evidences; they are not concoction. So, if that committee will sit to do anything judicial, we’ll seek (it) to be reasonable, we’ll seek (it) to take into consideration the facts as they are… We are not blind to the facts and so we do not expect that elections will be nullified”.

Kwabena Boateng

He made this revelation during a march held by some aggrieved elected polling station executives in the Ejisu constituency today, March 16, 2022. The group demanded the retraction and an apology from the MCE of the constituency, accusing him of causing disaffection in the party. The MCE for the constituency, Samuel Oduro Frimpong, is reported to have claimed that there was no due process followed in the polls. Commenting on the statement purportedly made by the MCE during a radio interview, Mr Boateng indicated that the MCE could have resorted to a redress of the matter rather than publicly disrespecting the outcome of the elections.

“Even more serious is the fact that as an MCE, if something is going on in the constituency that is not so good… you have an authority in the party. Do you go out there to sit on the public platform and spew whatever you want to spew? We have no problem with anybody contesting the MP. We trust whatever he has done [and] we trust the works that he has done. Our problem is that, when delegates have been voted in line with the regulations of the party, do you go to speak on radio stations and then impugn irregularities on the elections that we have properly organised? That is our problem”.

Calls for dismissal of Ejisu MCE

Following this, Mr Boateng called on the MCE to justify his assertions of irregularities in election results as aggrieved members will be left with no other choice than to demand for his removal from office if he fails to prove his allegations.

“We are calling on him. He is the one that makes public proclamation that the elections was not properly conducted. We are giving him a week. If he is unable to point us to the irregularities, if he is unable to meet the burden of proof in response to his allegations that he has made, we are calling on the President to remove him”.

Kwabena Boateng

Prior to this, the Northern Young Patriots called on President Akufo-Addo and the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare to take immediate steps to remove the MCE of Ejisu constituency, Mr. Samuel Oduro Frimpong, in order to avert any disaster and confusion in the constituency.

According to the group, tension is already “boiling” in the constituency due to the actions of the MCE. As such, government must not look unconcerned as the situation can escalate leading to various disturbances in the constituency.

Among its concerns, the group insists that despite the MP for the constituency, John Kumah’s support for the appointment of the MCE to assume his position, the MCE immediately after he assumed office started working against the MP. It noted that the MCE achieved this by taking decisions without consulting the MP; such as issuing counter directives against what the MP instructed should be done and denying people related to the MP access to some facilities in the constituency.
