Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has alleged that Frontiers Healthcare Services Limited, the company responsible for the Covid-19 testing at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has made a profit of GHS984.7million (US$130million) over the last 18 months.

He revealed that Frontiers Health Services and a few “nation-wrecking cronies” they are fronting for, are smiling to the bank having made an “inhumane booty” of US$130million from the COVID-19 pandemic which has claimed countless lives. Ironically, he expressed that government on the other hand insisted that Ghanaians should blame “bad guy COVID-19” for all the current economic miseries.

“By our conservative estimates, the less than 2 month old hurriedly incorporated Frontiers Healthcare Services Ltd made a staggering supernormal profit of US$130million (GHS984.7million — that’s almost a billion Ghana Cedis) over the last 18 months. You can bet rightly that a majority of Ghanaian companies doing legitimate business for decades have never seen that kind of balance sheet in their entire corporate life”.

Following this, Mr Ablakwa expressed that the minority will “smoke out the real McCoys Frontiers” used in its “sleazy extortionist airport testing scheme” which trampled upon all Ghanaian laws with impunity. Contained in a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa indicated that per the “unpatriotic nepotistic agreement”, the Ghana Airport Company which belongs to the 30.8million Ghanaians comparably made a paltry US$8million, further suggesting that one shouldn’t be surprised that Ghana Airport cannot pay its electricity bills.

“Imagine how 1billion Ghana Cedis could have transformed our foremost institutions whose scientists sacrificed greatly to fight the pandemic — I am referring to the globally acclaimed: Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the National Public Health and Reference Lab, Korle-Bu and the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP). We are, quite clearly, our own enemies”.

In a subsequent post, Mr Ablakwa revealed that even as Government “reluctantly and partially” halts the Frontiers heist, it however seems determined to help Frontiers continue in its “cruel” profiteering scheme. He pointed out that despite the President being lauded with“glowing claims” of the country escaping travel bans because of Frontiers, the President forgets that Ghana faced travel limitations from countries such as the UK, Qatar and the UAE at different times. Following this, he questioned why Frontiers should be allowed to still charge the unvaccinated US$50 and US$150 for an antigen test when virtually every country has seen drastic reductions with some charging as low as €15.

“More fundamentally, we need clarity and policy consistency— if truly our new national COVID-19 travel policy is to prevent the unvaccinated from travelling to Ghana via Kotoka, then all we need to do is to ask Frontiers to immediately close shop at the airport and get immigration to ensure no unvaccinated traveller enters our country”.

The North Tongu legislator noted that the NDC Caucus in Parliament will seek further clarification on these matters to determine if it shall be proceeding with its advertised series of picketing at the Kotoka International Airport.
