The State Transport Corporation (STC) Chief Executive Officer, Nana Akomea, has intimated that the wearing of nose mask has been effective in helping the country mitigate the impact and the spread of the COVID-19 infection.

Stating his disagreement with the lifting of mandatory wearing of nose masks, he averred that among all the measures, ending the wearing of mask should not have been part of the President’s decisions. He indicated that he is not enthused by the directive for Ghanaians to choose whether to wear the nose masks or not.

Touching on what citizens can do to help curb the virus and also protect themselves, he advised the general public to continue wearing nose masks, particularly in public spaces to avoid contracting the disease. “The wearing of the nose masks should have stayed because the COVID-19 is not gone yet”.

“The wearing of mask is something we all agreed to implement. So, I think it is a directive which should have been held on to. Shanghai of all places has got new infections and has currently been locked down. This shows that the infections can resurface unknowingly. As such, measures must be put in place in that regard.”

Commenting on how the public can contribute to reducing the rate of infections totally, Nana Akomea further urged the citizens, who haven’t yet been vaccinated, to take the jab. He indicated that unvaccinated persons must take the vaccination exercise serious and go for vaccination in order to help bring Ghana back to normalcy.

Also commenting on the lifted measures, Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, advised Ghanaians to treat the COVID-19 vaccination with urgency. He encouraged the citizens who haven’t received their vaccine jabs to go for vaccination in the wake of the lifting of restrictions.

Kwesi Pratt advised citizens not to let their guard down and called on them to take the vaccination seriously so as to prevent themselves from contracting and spreading the disease.

The ace Journalist called for a strict adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures stating that the nation is “not out of the woods yet at all. The restrictions have been lifted but it won’t augur well for us if we don’t vaccinate.”

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo

The President, on Sunday, March 27, 2022 declared that the wearing of face masks was no longer mandatory. In his address to the nation on the measures taken to help fight COVID-19, he encouraged all citizens to continue to maintain enhanced hand hygiene practices and avoid overcrowded gatherings.

President Akufo-Addo directed that fully vaccinated travelers coming to Ghana will not take PCR tests from their country to allow them entry into Ghana and will not be tested upon arrival at KIA as well.

The President stated that citizens and foreign residents in Ghana, who are not fully vaccinated would, however, need to provide a negative PCR test result of not more than 48-hours when travelling. He added that they will also undergo an antigen test and will be offered vaccination.
