Yvonne Nelson has registered her displeasure in the current state of Ghana's health sector and she is calling on President Akufo-Addo to see it as a clarion call.

Ghanaian Actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, has once again criticized the Akufo-Addo-led government for taking decisions that would benefit politicians instead of the entire citizens of the country.

The actress took to Twitter to bemoan how the majority of Ghanaians continue to suffer at the expense of others. In one of her tweets, she wrote: “You lured Ghanaians with your big, big English Nana Akufo-Addo”.

Yvonne further lamenting wrote: “More money for the politicians (and their families and side pieces) small money for the people (Ghanaians who stay in long queues/scorching sun to vote). Same old story”.

Yvonne’s comments are as a result of the implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (e-levy) that commenced on May 1, 2022. Consequently, all electronic transactions above GH¢100 will attract a 1.5% tax.

Yvonne Criticized Government

It comes as no surprise that the actress has called out the government over the implementation of the levy. While speaking in an earlier interview in February this year, Yvonne Nelson entreated the government to shelve the implementation of the bill. She explained that members of the general public are not pleased with its introduction.

“The e-Levy, Ghanaians do not like the idea, so why don’t we listen to Ghanaians. They are not happy about it, it’s really that simple,” Yvonne said at the time.

Yvonne, who has expressed her ambition of becoming a politician soon, recently questioned President Akufo-Addo whether he is impressed with the current state of the country. In an Instagram post, she quizzed “Mr. President, are you happy with Ghana so far?” According to Yvonne Nelson, Ghanaians are not happy with the current living standards and the slow growth of the economy.

Entertainers Against E-levy

It can be recalled that on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Parliament approved the controversial E-Levy Bill and some entertainment industry players were vehemently against the bill.

In a tweet, comedian DKB reechoed some promises the NPP and President Akufo-Addo made to the Ghanaian public, including insisting that the country has money and the NPP could do better in managing it.

Former #FixTheCountry convener, Efia Odo shared an old tweet from President Akufo- Addo from 2013 complaining about the then government.

“Oh, how power and authority change personalities,” Efia wrote adding that she would not use mobile money transaction again if the Bill finally becomes a law.

Shatta Wale noted that the leaders of the country are being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians with the introduction of the Bill.

Lydia Forson also stated that the introduction of the levy will push the country’s digitization plan, backward. She indicated that “there is nothing good about the levy”.

Meanwhile, comedian Warris only prayed government fulfills its promises of using the revenue gained from taxing Mobile Money transactions to develop the country and eradicate the economic challenges.

“God lead our leaders! Let their works with this E-levy reflect in the lives of Ghanaians! Let them help Ghana with the money,” Warris wrote.
