Nkoranza Shooting: Albert Was Targeted- Nkoranza MP

Member of Parliament for Nkoranza, Mr. Kwadwo Agyekum

Member of Parliament for Nkoranza, Mr. Kwadwo Agyekum, believes the young man, Albert Donkor, who was allegedly shot by the Police in Nkoranza, was targeted.

Kwadwo Agyekum who doubles as the young man’s uncle intimated that the circumstances which led to Albert Donkor’s death clearly indicated a targeted killing. The Member of Parliament disclosed that he believes the Policemen are trying to hide an armed robbery issue in the area.

“He was targeted, picked, sent to the bush and was shot dead. You know the Police Service has got a story and I think when they go for training they rehearse it. The same story they gave about those young men who were shot in Ashiaman, is the same story they are telling us that he was taken to the camp of the robbers and was shot. That’s very childish.”

The Member of Parliament disclosed that the family is not happy with the story because anybody in the right frame of mind knows the Police cannot pick somebody and shoot him that same day without taking him to court. He described the issue as an unprofessional way of working.

However, the Nkoranza MP stated that some Police Officers have also opted to testify in the case. “They say they saw Albert before the incident and I am hoping they don’t change their mind.”

Family demands justice

Mr. Kwadwo Agyekum indicated that the people of Nkoranza and the family of the deceased wants justice for Albert. He also called for an independent investigation into the matter and requested investigations should bring all the seven Policemen involved in the killing to book.

“We want international organizations and Ghanaian authorities to give Albert the right and the respectable justice he needs. It is not fair. You know you don’t investigate yourself and if you want me to investigate myself, definitely I will create a story. Unfortunately, Albert is no more to defend himself and these are the same people who [killed him]. One of the Policemen use to come to Albert’s house to come and eat.”

The Nkoranza MP disclosed that the family has petitioned the IGP, George Akuffo Dampare, who has reached out to help bring justice to Albert. “He said they think that what happened is not right and they are going to investigate.”

Mr. Agyekum then urged the people of Nkoranza to help get justice for the innocent young man who was killed by the Police. “Its very painful that you can raise your child to 27 years and somebody shoots them.”

Mr. Agyekum’s comments came after a 27 year old named Albert Donkor, was on April 25, 2022 picked up at his mother’s residence at Kasadjan in the Nkoranza municipality by the Police on suspicion of robbery that had occurred on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road.

According to the deceased uncle, he was sent to the bush and allegedly shot by some police officers after which his body was transferred to Techiman Hospital to be deposited but unfortunately the hospital refused to take the body because there was no family member at the time. He was later transferred to Accra to be deposited at the morgue.
