The National Hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, has reacted to a report making rounds claiming that the corpse of late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, sings her popular song ‘Ekwueme’ while in the mortuary.

The spokesman for the hospital, Dr. Taiwo Haastrup, reacting to the claims noted that there is no proof that the late singer’s corpse sings in the morgue. He emphasized that there is no way a corpse can be singing while in the morgue.

Haastrup while reacting to the claim said: “Medically, there is nothing like that; it’s just an imagination of people. Somebody that is dead and is a corpse, how would such a person be singing in the night?

“There is no medical backup to that. It’s an imagination that may be due to the church she attended while alive, and the songs may just be giving people ideas, but there is no proof in any way. It just can’t be proven in any way. Somebody that is dead is dead and has become a corpse; it’s inside a morgue, it can’t sing and can’t move so it’s an imagination of people”.

Dr. Haastrup

Speaking on the autopsy report, Hasstrup said: “It’s a coroner case, and it’s confidential; we can’t reveal anything there. The IPO in charge will give it to the IGP, who will turn it to the court. The result has been submitted all the same, and our people did it confidentially”.

The National Hospital in Abuja had said only the police would release the report of the autopsy conducted on late gospel singer to the court in privacy.

“The report is going to the people who made the request, it won’t be disclosed to the public at all,” the Chief Medical Director of National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Jeff Momoh, told local media in an earlier interview.

Reports of Osinachi’s Corpse Singing

Osinachi was a chorister at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre before she died as a result of alleged domestic violence she suffered from her husband, Peter Nwachukwu. The remain of the gospel singer was thereafter deposited in the National Hospital mortuary.

There had been reports that the mortuary attendants claimed that Osinachi’s corpse was singing ‘Ekwueme’, in the middle of the night. According to them, every night, they reportedly heard the gospel singer sings her hit song ‘Ekwueme’ at midnight.

This generated mixed reactions from the public as many opined that the report can’t be true.

“It is possible, one of my uncles died and started singing ‘black black black sheep’ in the mortuary,” one social media user who was being sarcastic wrote.

“It can be true, my mom told me that Osinachi died before her time and that her spirit was still existing on earth, but she should go and torment her husband,” another social media user opined.

Osinachi’s death has been widely linked to brutalization by her husband, Peter Nwachukwu. Following her death, Osinachi’s family is said to have demanded that an autopsy be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nwachukwu has absolved himself of any wrongdoing that led to his wife’s death.
