The Assemblyman for the Tagyiri electoral area in Wa in the Upper West Region, Abdul Fataou Daud, has indicated that his unit committee members are trying as much as possible to apprehend the perpetrators who flogged the two lovers in Wa.
According to Abdul Daud, they are working also with the Police to ensure that those who carried out the act are brought to book. Abdul Daud then condemned the flogging of the two lovers over a leaked sex tape in the area by the irate youth.
“The youth have taken the law into their own hands. There is no law that is saying that if a video of that nature is on social media, they should call them and lash them as they did. So, we condemn it, there is no such law in the municipality.”

According to Abdul Daud, the only thing that is done for sometime now is that, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the municipality try as much as possible when they come across such videos to call the victims, counsel them, mould them and integrate them into the society.
The Assemblyman further indicated that he will seek a more detailed knowledge of the issue from the victims themselves.
“I will visit both of them to actually see their current state, because people are telling me that when they flogged them, there were a lot of marks on their backs and buttocks. So, I will visit them to see their state of health.”

Flogging two lovers, insane
Reacting to the issue, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, the founder of Danquah Institute described the flogging of the two lovers in Wa over a leaked sex tape as “insane”.
In a social media post, Mr. Otchere-Darko questioned the action of the residents against the two consenting adults after the video of the flogging went viral.
“Two consenting adults (man and woman) decide to film themselves having sex, apparently. The tape goes viral and some in the community believe they have a responsibility to flog the couple publicly? Insane!”

On Tuesday, May 31 2022, two lovers were paraded in front of the courtyard of the Wa Naa’s Palace and were lashed by the irate youth who had dragged the two there to report them to the chief as they were seen in a sex tape making rounds on social media.
Reports stated that they were caught allegedly engaging in sex and the sex tape was leaked to the public. Unfortunately, when the youth got to the palace, the Wa Naa wasn’t around and the youth then decided to take matters into their own hands by tying the two lovers to a pole in front of the palace and flogged them.
The male believed to be 20 years is a tricycle driver and the the female is an 18-year-old ticket seller at the Wa Central Market. The incident has since been condemned by a cross section of the public who described the action of the youth as a violation of the right of the victims.
