Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has disclosed that politics and elections doesn’t always forebode a win-win situation.

According to the New Patriotic Party bigshot, it is usual for elections result not to turn out as intended. Mr Boadu indicated that he had occupied both the rank-and-file positions in the party for over two decades and the roles he occupied required that he made a lot of decisions that might have affected people which was a contributing factor to his defeat.

“You see as for politics and elections you must consider that it is not always win-win, it’s possible you will lose.”

John Boadu

Speaking on his loss at the NPP executive elections, Mr Boadu stated that sometimes he gets amazed as the things that he “hear are so minute considering the number of years that I have been in the party working with people”. He conceded that certainly one is predisposed to stepping on the toes of other people, especially when “taking decisions that you need to implement”.

“You implement decisions, and it affects people. You must take a decision to go in this direction and that direction will obviously affect people. At some point, anything that happens in the party is John Boadu. Because you are the one who implements those decisions, it looks as if you are the one taking that decision.”

John Boadu

The former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party stated that his private business has been his priority since his defeat at the National Delegate Conference in July. He stated that during his execution of role as the general secretary of the party, his political career was interfering with his occupation. Owing to this, he explained that his defeat afforded him the opportunity to focus on his private business.

“I’ve been going on with the private job that I do. I’ve been nursing [it] over a period.”

Comparing his political career to a church position, Mr Boadu indicated that a church’s decision to allow an individual to hand over their position to someone else does not indicate that the individual in question would have no other work to do.

He highlighted that just because he was a politician did not mean that he should exclusively focus on politics and ignore building his profession.

John Boadu’s loss to JFK

It will be recalled that then incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, John Boadu, lost the position to Mr. Justin Frimpong Koduah, alias JFK in the keenly contested election held at the Accra Sports Stadium in July this year.

Mr. Kodua, the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), became the new General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, as he polled 2,857 votes to beat Mr. John Boadu who obtained 2,524 votes out of the total 5,556 votes cast.

JFK is the former Deputy Regional Youth Organiser in 2010 and a member of the NPP Ashanti Regional campaign team in 2008. He also served as a member of the National Youth Wing of the party as a Chairman of the Legal Committee of the youth wing.

Following his loss, Mr Boadu pledged his full commitment and support to the party’s new national executives. He admonished the party to work with the newly elected executives, particularly to ensure the party breaks the 8 by winning the general elections come 2024.

Additionally, he also pledged to work with the elected executive with his rich experience he gained while in office.
