His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, President of Ghana has accepted the resignation letter of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen from the Ministry of Trade and Industry position.

This was revealed in a statement released and signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President today January 6, 2023.

This comes after Mr Kyerematen, on Thursday, 5th January, informed the President personally of his decision to resign, and subsequently submitted his letter of resignation to him.

President Akuffo Addo further thanked the former Trade Minister for his services to his government and to the country, and wished him well in his future endeavours.

Although it is unclear why Alan resigned from the Akuff Addo government, after serving in the position since 2017, it is believed that he took the decision to enable him properly implement his Presidential ambition.

Hours after the Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen resigned, there have been mixed reactions to increasing calls for him and Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia to pair up to shore up the New Patriotic Party’s chances of winning election 2024.

One of those calling for a merger between the two factions to preserve the party’s unity, is the Managing Director of State Transport Company, Nana Akomea.

Speaking in an interview , the former NPP Director of Communications stated that “I believe it is worth a try to have Mr Kyerematen and Dr Bawumia.”

“For me, it will be worth the while for two camps to sit down and horse trade and see if they can have a meeting of minds. If they try it and they agree that they can’t reconcile their positions fine.”

Akomea

A member of the NPP’s Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, also believes it will be in the party’s interest and advantage if the two most popular aspirants join forces. He noted that the call for a merger is not to disenfranchise any aspirant.

“We are a democratic party but we are with a purpose which is to win the election in 2024. I have been in politics for 60 years and I cannot think that putting the competing interest together will anyway be a disadvantage, If anything at all, it will be the greatest advantage that we have.”

Meanwhile, the President has asked the Minister for Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, to act as caretaker Minister at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, until a substantive appointment is made.

Your Resignation Is Too late

Meanwhile, former Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has described the resignation of Trades Minister, Alan Kyerematen, as ‘too late’.

Reacting to the news of the minister’s resignation, the former NDC appointee noted that the move is behind time, given that Mr Kyerematen has already contributed to the deterioration of Ghana’s economy.

According to him, Alan and other members of the country’s economic management team have collectively sunk the country hence it is too late for him to exit the scene.

Mr Boamah therefore charged the minister to rather stay at post and apologise to Ghanaians for the harm caused.

“Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen it’s tooooooooooooooo laaaaaaaaaaattttte, just toooooooo laaaaaaaaaaattttte to resign from this sinking ship.

“This NPP government is in its 7th year, and you’ve been part of the “SOLID TEAM” that has mismanaged the economy. Embrace the responsibilities and apologise to Ghanaians for collectively failing us: as a government and as an Economic (mis)Management Team.”

Mr Omane Boamah

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for the election of its flagbearer ahead of the 2024 general elections, the men are gradually being separated from the boys.
