In this light, the delegation, led by Mrs. Marielle Leseur, EIB Loan Officer for Ghana paid a courtesy call to GRIDCo to discuss potential avenues for continuing the cooperation already existent between the Republic of Ghana and the EIB. Accompanying Mrs. Leseur to Ghana was three (3) officials from the European Union Delegation.

EIB’s discussion with GRIDCo involved funding critical projects, which will strengthen the cross-border trade between Ghana and its neighbors in the West African Power Pool.

Of key interest in the discussion was the funding of the second interconnection between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire at 330 kV and co-funding the 330kV Pokuase – Anwomaso project with Kreditanstalt Für Wiederaufbau (KfW). These projects, when completed promise to improve reliability, reduce transmission losses and promote Ghana’s export agenda.

Ing. Vincent Boachie, Director of Engineering at GRIDCo, led the Management team on behalf of the Chief Executive, who was away on another equally important assignment.

GRIDCo in turn visits KNUST Engineering College

Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) recently visited KNUST, where it engaged with the College of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) about ways in which the company could play a stronger collaborative role in training and supporting engineers trained by the College.

Prof. Kwabena Britwum Nyarko, the Provost, College of Engineering on behalf of the College engaged the Management Team of GRIDCo, which was led by Chief Executive Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi, with support from the Kumasi Area staff.

In his interaction with the team from GRIDCo, Prof. Nyarko highlighted four (4) areas of interest where the company could impact transformative support to the College of Engineering.

Amongst these areas are: proposed construction of a proposed innovation building to be dubbed ‘GRIDCo Centre of Excellence’; providing adjunct lecturers; accelerated master’s programme.

Already, GRIDCo has been supportive of the KNUST’s Endowment Fund and continues to provide internship training to students from the school; for which Prof. Nyarko and his team expressed appreciation.

Through with discussions, the Provost, together with the Dean of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Prof. Abdul-Rahman Ahmed, provided the GRIDCo Management Team, a tour through Levine Hall at the College; for which support is required and a piece of land allocated to host the proposed ‘GRIDCo Centre of Excellence’.

The two aforementioned groups provided the GRIDCo Team another guided tour to the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (RAIL) – a center focused on Artificial Intelligence development and training.

Led by Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Principal Investigator and Scientific Director said, the objective of the RAIL Centre is to address the skills gap in Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the sub-region by training professionals on the practical use of and responsible application of AI so as to respond to challenges in the various sectors within the sub-region and beyond.

The College of Engineering has maintained a reputation for quality training over half a century and has since been at the forefront of preparing manpower to support the technological and engineering advancement of KNUST, Ghana, and beyond.
