Bola Tinubu Wins At His Polling Unit In Lagos

The presidential candidate for the APC, Bola Tinubu, has won his polling unit in Lagos.

There were frantic scenes earlier in the day as the press tried to get snaps of Tinubu as he cast his vote.

The results were as follows: APC – 33, LP – 8, PDP – 1, YPP – 1

Atiku Abubakar Wins At His Polling Unit In Adamawa

The presidential candidate for the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has won his polling unit in Yola, in the north-eastern state of Adamawa.

The results were as follow: PDP – 282, APC – 57, LP – 6, Alliance Party – 2, NNPP – 1, Boot Party – 1

Counting Continues In Other Parts Of The Country

Thousands of polling stations are counting the results, which will be collated and sent to the electoral headquarters in the capital Abuja.

The final result is not expected until at least Tuesday.

Voters in the biggest city, Lagos, cheered as electoral officers arrived at a polling station in the suburb of Lekki nearly four hours after polls had officially closed.

There have also been reports of violence and ballot boxes being snatched in Lagos.

Vote counting continues

Although some voters were angry at the delays, others waited patiently to vote.

“As a Nigerian you expect any eventuality, so I came out with my power bank and a bottle of water. I will wait till they arrive so I can vote,” first-time voter, Edith told reporters.

However, voting was postponed to Sunday at 141 polling stations in the oil-rich southern state of Bayelsa because of disruptions.

In the north-eastern state of Borno, Yakubu said that militant Islamists had opened fire on electoral officers from a mountain top in the Gwoza area, injuring a number of officials.

It rained heavily in the capital, Abuja; the first time this year and symbolically marking the official end to voting.

Those who are superstitious are reading meanings into the rain, while those who stayed around during the sorting of ballots at polling stations scuttled for cover.

It has been an eventful day with security fears and logistical problems being blamed for delays to voting. People were still in queues in some parts of the country.

Voting was still ongoing at Tundunwada Ward under Gusau Local Government of Zamfara State.

The Assistant Presiding Officer attributed the late voting to the late commencement of the entire process.

There was a long voting queue at the Unguwar Galadima Primary School polling unit, Kangyere/Tirwun Registration Area of Bauchi Local Government Area.

Voting commenced there at 1 pm due to the late arrival of election materials, and just as voting began, the BVAS machine developed a fault causing the delay.
