“I was just in the house somewhere around 3:30 am, concerning some invasion of military personnel in the Official Town enclave of Ashaiman and according to the sources, they were just brutalizing the innocent citizens; people who are going about their daily duties, people who would want to go to work early morning.

“They were just brutalizing them, making sure they don’t come out from their homes, reasons best known to them. But what we are picking, is a reprisal attack on the innocent citizens, as a result of the killing of one of their own on Saturday dawn.”

The Member of Parliament, also said that he had however reached out to the Deputy Defense Minister, to calm the situation and he assured him the men, would be called back to the barracks.

“I am in the community as we speak, I live in Ashaiman official town so I know what is happening,” he added.

Videos of the attacks on some residents in Ashaiman, has gone viral on social media after military personnel stormed the area, and coarsened citizens. In some of these videos, personnel were seen hitting and brutalizing residents who were outside of their rooms during the early hours of the day.

The incident happened on the dawn of Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Official town in Ashaiman, during a heavy downpour. Reports indicate that residents have been forced to stay in their rooms, until there is a calm atmosphere. Thus, most streets in the area were very empty.

Social Media Users React To Alleged Mob Killing Of The Soldier In Ashaiman

Ashaiman, a suburb in Greater Accra, is currently number one on the social media platform; Twitter, following an invasion of military personnel in the area. Some Ghanaians on social media, have reacted to the alleged killing of a member of the Ghana Armed Force, by a mob in Ashaiman.

According to some Tweets, the army personnel, who was described as a young soldier, was on his way home when he was attacked by a gang. Reports indicate that the soldier was given permission to go home by the army, after he felt sick.

A tweet by SikaOfficial, indicated that the sources privy to the incident, have said that the military personnel was stabbed to death by the mob. “According to a close source, he wasn’t beaten to death, he was stabbed to death instead. The young soldier was on his way to see his mum when this unforeseen incident took place,” the tweet said.

Pictures from the scene of the incident showed the lifeless body of the victim, who was in what seems to be military trousers that had been torn. His military cap and a white material, had been used to cover his face. Also, his military bag could be seen lying close to him. The Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service, are yet to comment on the incident.

However, some military personnel are reported to have invaded the area, brutalizing innocent residents after the murder of one of their own on Saturday dawn. Following this development, social media users on Twitter have taken to the micro-blogging site, to share their opinion on the issue, while others shared videos in relation to the development.

“So, what the Soldiers are doing, will it bring the guy back to life or what? Beating innocent people, just investigate and look for those who did that and take them on. Though, what the people of Ashaiman did was uncalled for, but what they are doing nor dey hia… Ah”

Others on twitter supported the idea raised, that the actual culprits responsible for the death of the young soldier, had probably left the town and innocent people were paying for a crime, they knew nothing about.
