Ing. Abdul Karim Appointed as Heath Goldfields Engineering Manager

Ing. Abdul Karim, PE, CMRP has been announced as the Engineering Manager of the Heath Goldfields Limited of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.

A move which signifies the company’s dedication to operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable mining practices.

“With over two decades of professional experience in the mining industry, Ing. Karim brings a wealth of technical expertise in asset management, process automation, and electrical and instrumentation systems.”

Ing. Karim joins Heath Goldfields from Newmont Corporation, where he has over the years, served as Regional Manager, Control Systems and Instrumentation Africa.

During his time at Newmont Corporation, he “spearheaded automation strategies and process control optimization initiatives across multiple mine sites in the region.”

With this over decades good-standing professional experience in the mining industry, Heath Goldfields sees Ing. Karim as a great addition to its team as he brings on board a wealth of technical expertise in asset management, process automation, and electrical and instrumentation systems.

Ing. Karim’s early career at Obuasi Mine, where he championed automation and control system upgrades for shaft and winder infrastructure, has offered him strong underground engineering credentials, which aligns directly with Heath Goldfields’ mission to “modernize and optimize underground operations through innovation, automation, and engineering excellence.”

Heath Goldfields Limited operates the Bogoso-Prestea Mine in the Western Region, and the company is committed to responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and community development, with a focus on building a sustainable legacy within the Ghanaian mining sector.

The company which has been in the mining environment for years, was recently ordered to cease operations at Bogoso-Prestea mine as a result of regulatory breaches and operational failures.

The company announced last week that it has resolved it impasses and sets to resume full operations.

The appointment of Ing. Karim underscores the company’s readiness and commitment to responsible mining as it resumes.

During his tenure at Newmont Corporation, Ing. Karim also championed critical roles in the 5 Mtpa process plant upgrade at Asanko Gold Mine and the control system virtualization program at Newmont Ahafo South projects that have engineered new benchmarks for reliability and efficiency in Ghana’s mining operations.

This experience in driving innovation and automation aligns perfectly with Heath Goldfields’ vision for the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.
