The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s largest opposition political party, has been praised by the government’s spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, for increasing voter turnouts in relation to the number of votes their Parliamentary candidate garnered during the by-election in the Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

“The NDC’s performance didn’t surprise me much. They went on ground to support their candidate. Their flagbearer and party Chairman were on grounds with sitting MPs who are not from the region were all on grounds to support their candidates. The NDC clearly if you see have been growing in terms of voter turnouts. Even in the Eastern Region, they are closing up gaps.”

Ernest Anim of the New Patriotic Party won the by-election for the Kumawu Constituency with nearly 15,000 votes, or 70.91% of the total votes cast, defeating Kwesi Amankwaa of the National Democratic Congress with 3,719 votes, or 17.28%. According to the results, the NDC has more than doubled the number of votes it received in the constituency, since the general election of 2020.

Speaking about the NDC’s success in Kumawu, the government spokesperson for governance and security said he was not surprised, given how hard they worked during the campaign. Although Kumawu is a stronghold for the NPP, he noted that the NDC’s result demonstrated how much their voter turnout has increased or is increasing.

Mr. Boakye-Danquah emphasized that even if the NDC is filling in gaps inside of NPP strongholds, those areas still support the NPP, and he requested that the NDC not be given further advantages there.

He also denied claims and allegations that the government started building roads in Kumawu as a result of the by-elections, claiming that the Kumawu Constituency had been the site of enormous development projects, long before the death of their former representative, Philip Basoah.

He continued by saying that the road construction that was seen in Kumawu was preplanned and would have happened, even if there had not been a by-election.

“I know developmental projects that have been going on in Kumawu. The road construction was very timetabled, he added.

NDC Rep Slienced With List Of Completed NPP Infrastructure

Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security Palgrave Frimpong Boakye-Danquah responded to claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that there are no projects to show for, as regards the debt accumulated under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He mentioned some infrastructure initiatives that he claimed were tangible results of government borrowing.

The government led by Akufo-Addo has allegedly constructed 13 interchanges thus far, in addition to other projects, according to the candidate for the Abuakwa North parliamentary seat.

Mr. Boakye-Danquah was addressing charges made by Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, a member of the NDC’s legal team, that the current administration is borrowing without having anything to show for it.
