Dance Challenges Have Become Part And Parcel Of My Songs – Mr. Drew

Mr. Drew

Ghanaian singer Andrew Nii Commey Otoo known by the stage name Mr Drew has said everyone knows him for doing dance challenges.

According to the musician and dancer, he always comes up with a dance challenge that has become part of his craft.

In an interview, he said:

“As for me I have always been for dance and I have always been championing dance challenges.

“When you observe carefully, you’ll realize that all the way from the Covid time, I started doing dance challenges with my younger brother”.

Mr. Drew

He added:

“So as for me, everyone knows that when Mr Drew drops a song a dance challenge will surely follow and I always love to attach dance to my music.

“If the song is danceable why not there is no problem so the dance challenge is ongoing and even today I posted one which is viral with lookalikes so as for the dance definitely that’s what we do”.

Mr Drew born Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, an Afrobeats musician, revealed that he’s having a scouting team that monitors radio stations to know music trends.

He told the host:

“Usually I have a team that does scouting on my behalf so they mostly listen to the radio all the time to know what kind of songs are making waves”.

Mr. Drew

He added:

“When they bring their findings, then we consider it and compare it with songs that I’ve already recorded to see which one matches with the trends”.

Mr. Drew

Talking about his new song titled ‘Tomorrow’, the singer said he is mostly strategic about the songs he releases.

He stated:

“Usually these things that we do our business and in business, you always have to be strategic so we are mostly strategic about our song releases.

“So when we looked through we saw that in some few months to come Afropiano cos this is not strictly Amapiano and it’ll be something everyone will listen to”.

Mr. Drew

He concluded:

“And if that’s the case, we decide that we will give the people what they want to hear before we move on”.

Mr. Drew is blaming the media for the soaring popularity of look-alike figures.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Drew noted that it was quite interesting to see artists struggling for media attention to promote their works. Yet, these mirror images enjoy such rare opportunities on a silver platter.

Mr. Drew accused the media of fueling their “illegitimate works” by interviewing them on their various radio and TV stations.

Mr. Drew said:

“If we stop giving these lookalikes attention all these will stop. For now, there is nothing I can do since we are still giving them attention and making them feel what they are doing is right. If we stop giving them attention they will put a stop to impersonating us”.

Mr. Drew

Earlier in April, three young men caused a stir on social media with their striking resemblance to popular Ghanaian music stars Kidi, Kuami Eugene, and King Promise. The trio, who identify themselves as the lookalikes of the famous musicians, went viral after a video of them surfaced online.

The resemblance of the three young men to the celebrities was nothing short of remarkable. From their hairstyles to their fashion sense, the lookalikes seemed to have nailed every aspect of their idols’ appearances.

The video went viral drawing huge attention from both traditional and social media users. Interestingly, their presence has caused differing reactions from the artists. On the part of Medikal who warned them in a video he posted online, the look-alikes were just impersonators feeding off the sweat of hardworking.

King Promise, however, thinks that they are not impersonators but just their way of showing them, love.
