NPP Flagbearership Race: It Is Important To Uphold The Rules And Regulations- Boakye Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister of Energy, has referred to himself as a ‘unifier’ in an effort to unite and inspire NPP members if selected to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Agyarko emphasized his goal of giving disenchanted NPP members—particularly those at the grassroots—a sense of value, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

In describing his strategy, the former Energy Minister claimed to be a ‘unifier’ who brings together all facets of the party, welcomes everyone, and makes everyone feel appreciated. He emphasized the significance of unity and asserted that he is very approachable because he takes the time to get to know members of the party, especially those at the grassroots.

“I have cultivated the habit of meeting people once, or twice for knowing them, which constituencies they are and all of that. That is the attribute I bring. Yes, I’m a people person.

“I’m a hermit in a certain sense. If you can compartmentalize your life into different pigeon holes, you can retreat when you need to retreat, and recharge your batteries and you can go forth and engage. There’s no corner in this country that I have not worked in for the party. None!”

Boakye Agyarko

Boakye Agyarko made it clear that he has been actively interacting with the grassroots and is aware of the difficulties they confront.

“There are very few people who can make claims of working with the grassroots. I can go to Nabdam constituency and other places to drink pito with them. I can tour the whole country in about six weeks by road. You have empathy for the grassroots when you get closer to them.”

The NPP Presidential candidate, who is up against nine other candidates, claimed to have the ability to listen, among all others.

“The capacity to understand the issues that are confronting the people, humility to accept that a path that may be chosen may not be right and therefore you need to change. Ability to listen and consult with a high level of patience.”

Party Presidential Vetting Report Submitted

After a lengthy meeting behind closed doors, the report was finally turned over to Justin Kodua Frimpong by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vetting committee.

Ten candidates were vetted between Monday, July 3 and Thursday, July 6, after they successfully submitted their nominations at the end of closure on Saturday, June 24.

The first person to testify before the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee was former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. Energy expert, Kojo Nsafoah Poku and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia followed in that order on the first day of vetting. The others took their turns until Thursday, July 6 when former Mampong Member of Parliament (MP), Francis Addai-Nimoh was vetted.

Prior to voting on Monday, July 24, the results of the vetting will be made public on Friday, July 21.

“On the face of it, the party is very satisfied,” averred Spokesperson of the Committee after submitting the report, adding that “If the party has any issues, they’d come back to us.”

General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong later acknowledged receipt and underlined the commitment of the national leadership “to ensuring a free fair, peaceful, and transparent election process.”
