Presidents Acceptance Letter Of Cecilia Dapaah Very Disappointing- Nana Oye

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, a former Minister of Gender, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the words in a letter he wrote to accept Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s resignation from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources portfolio.

She also pressed President Akufo-Addo to reveal to Ghanaians where the former Sanitation Minister’s fortune came from.

“It is a dark mark on the leadership of President Akufo-Addo. I found the President’s acceptance letter of Cecilia Dapaah very disappointing, to say the least. It’s been almost a week and I haven’t seen any action by him. The President’s letter is very regrettable. The earlier he says something, the better; Ghanaians are watching. Look at the corruption, the money is very huge.

“Ghana has become a mockery. It’s a very sad thing for Ghana, for a cabinet Minister to report fearlessly her huge money has been stolen. Why has the President not said anything? We as citizens of Ghana are demanding that you summon Cecilia Dapaah and question where she got her money.”

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo

Nii Lante Vanderpuije, a member of parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency, however, urged President Akufo-Addo to step aside and let the anti-corruption organizations handle Cecilia Dapaah’s issue.

“I’m not surprised this has happened, the magnitude of this is unbelievable. We will just wait and see what will come out of this case. The best thing the President will do is to stay off and allow the Office of the Special Prosecutor and other anti-corruption agencies to do their work.”

Nii Lante Vanderpuije

Additionally, he encouraged government communicators to stop defending the scandal.

“The more they try to explain, the more foolish they become in the eyes of Ghanaians and the public. Those trying to explain are becoming a laughingstock, the excuses given are laughable. They should just apologise and ask Ghanaians for forgiveness.”

Minority Urges Probe

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is being urged by a number of Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) to complete its investigation into the case of Cecilia Dapaah as soon as possible.

The OSP has detained Madam Cecilia Dapaah after alleging that vast sums of local and foreign currencies were stolen from her home.

Minority MPs asked the OSP to move quickly to freeze the former Minister’s bank accounts and examine her home to find out what more she might have left.

Alhaji Sulemana, the MP for Bole Bamboi, claimed that this action will stop her from transferring money to other accounts, while the investigations are ongoing.

“We want to appeal to the OSP that it is not enough to arrest the woman. What we expect of him is to quickly let security apparatus ransack the woman’s house and to take stock of what is in there. He should also ensure that her accounts are frozen so that she is unable to transfer or withdraw from those accounts.

“It is not just about arresting her, but Ghanaians expect agility from the Special Prosecutor to get to the bottom of these issues. So that we know the source of these monies because we are broke.”

Alhaji Sulemana

Clement Apaak, MP for Builsa South on his part, added that “I don’t know of any bank that would allow for anyone to withdraw $10,000 without an alarm being triggered. So to find out that over a million dollars have been stolen, over €300,000 euros and several millions of cedis gone raises a lot of questions.”
