Talented singer, songwriter, and performer, Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema has achieved another milestone in his career as his song ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez becomes the first song in history to spend one year on top of the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart.

The American data collection company, ‘Chart Data’ announced this on Monday 28, August, 2023.

It peaked at number three on the main chart, Billboard Hot 100, and reached number one on the Canadian Top Songs chart.

‘Calm Down’ debuted at No. 1 when the MENA Chart was launched by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) on November 29, 2022.

‘Calm Down’ also entered into the Guinness World Record as the First No.1 Hit on The Official MENA Chart (the world’s first regional streaming chart).

In 2019, Rema got signed to Jonzing World Record owned by D’Prince who has an affiliation with Mavin Records.

It can be recalled that the famous singer broke legendary musician, King Sunny Ade’s 41-year-old record as the Nigerian artist with the longest-running album in the US Billboard 200 chart’s history.

King Sunny Ade set the record with his critically-acclaimed album, “Juju Music” in 1982 – 18 years before Rema was born.

The album spent 29 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart and was the longest-running Nigerian project in the chart’s history until it was recently displaced by Rema’s debut album ‘Rave & Roses’ which spent a 30th week on the chart.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption.

Also, Rema was nominated for two other awards, ‘Best Collaboration’ and ‘Best Song of the Year’ as MTV unveiled the nominees for the 2023 Video Music Awards.

The Nigerian hit-maker, Rema’s hit song ‘Calm Down’ happens to be nominated.

The 2023 MTV (VMAs)is scheduled to take place on September 12, 2023, airing live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Voting is still ongoing with most categories closing on September 1.

Rema reveals why this generation should learn not to quit on people easily

The afrobeat hitmaker, Rema addressed the contemporary generation against quitting too soon on others.

The global songster opined that staying committed to a course or a person comes with a reward.

In a thought-provoking post, he recognized the peculiar characteristic nature of the present generation while putting out his counsel on commitment.

He argued individuals must necessarily adjust in that regard because of the role they may have been destined to play in the lives of those they come across or vice versa.

The “Calm Down” singer’s tweet read:

“Some of our biggest blessings might be in the hands of the worst people you might ever come across.

“In our generation of quitting on people early, just remember that there’s a reward for the steadfast & your presence in their life might be the true lecture they need. God didn’t place you in their hands by mistake”.

The hitmaker recounted that he didn’t take life seriously until he lost his daddy.

He revealed that losing his dad shaped his mind at an early age and made him realize the importance of family.

He said:

“It shaped me, to be honest. It shaped my mindset, my mood, you know. There was a point in time when I was very colorful, I would say. I was funny, running around, and unserious. I never took life seriously until when I lost my dad. And it just shows different sides of people. It just shows the importance of family as well.

“Yeah, as siblings we might have our fights and quarrels but you never know when you will just not see them again; the people you are closest to. For my dad, my dad used to call me a soldier”.
