NPP Presidential Primaries: Team Bawumia Should Not Get Overly Excited- Slyvester Tetteh

Sylvester Tetteh

Sylvester Tetteh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor-Ngleshi Amanfro Constituency, has cautioned Team Bawumia not to get overly excited about a victory that represents less than 1% of the entire representation of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Delegates.

In his opinion, Team Bawumia should hold back on the celebrations because their victory only represents 0.46% of the overall number of delegates; adding that the team’s right to brag about itself is not a problem.

Additionally, he asserted that 80% of the votes at the Super Delegates Conference were expected to go to Bawumia, as predicted by many but that outcome was not achieved.

However, he gave them the benefit of the doubt and complimented them for winning the battle, rather than the war. He claimed that he was unsure as to whether the tactic employed by team Bawumia is vital for the party or not.

“Going forward, it is all of us NPP before anything and we must be careful how we play these things against our own selves. I said that if you don’t have money, don’t go into election and people were laughing at me. The whole party met and the reason for not adhering to our own constitution was the lack of funding. Yes, I mean yesterday, the General Secretary spoke on how to break the tie.

“The reason why they’re limiting it to only National Council Members is that we don’t have money and of course, logistical constraints and our diasporan voters had left and its laughable.”

Prediction Came True

Sylvester Tetteh claimed that his prediction had come true that Alan Kyerematen, Kennedy Agyapong, and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would be the top three after the Super Delegates Conference.

Also, he stated that in reality, the election was set up to choose two more candidates from the list of seven, but the party only chose one, necessitating the holding of a runoff for another person.

“We are still struggling with the fifth one. So, my predictions were true. The essence of the Super Delegates Conference is to shortlist 5 out of the 10 people. For us in Alan Kyerematen’s camp, we’ve always made our point clear that we know what is at stake. And we were hopeful that we were going to get it into the 5 and then we proceed from that.

“These are delegates less than 1% of the entire delegates that will be voting on November 4. But of course, the delegates have spoken. Our expectation was to have more numbers than we had on Saturday. Nonetheless, it has not dampened our spirits as it were. We made a statement congratulating everybody and we said that in the due course, the campaign team will be making a statement.”

Moreover, the Bortianor-Ngleshi Amanfro Constituency MP emphasized that following established norms and regulations is always important to him. After his observations, he asserted that Team Alan is still unhappy with what occurred on Saturday, since its polling agent was viciously attacked.

“As we speak, he’s still in Accra receiving medical attention. We thank God he did not lose his eyes because he almost lost his eyes and you’ve seen the pictures all over. Alan Kyerematen visited and airlifted him to Accra for medical treatment and he’s made a statement to that effect.

“I think that we must move on as a party; the elephant is supreme. However, it does not bar us from taking stock of what we’ve done. Because the things we were talking about is actually playing out today, even in an attempt to separate the tie to get the fifth person to join. And these are things that we spoke about.”
