NPP Primaries: Nobody Wins Super Delegates And Loses At The Main Elections- Asante

Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, David Boateng Asante.

Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, David Boateng Asante, has expressed his conviction in the win of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, revealing that nobody wins super delegates and loses at the main election.

According to him, what happened at the super delegates conference cannot be decoupled from what will happen on the day of elections on November 4. He revealed that almost everybody who is part of the constituted super delegates conference electoral process contested and was voted for.

This, he noted, included the regional chairmen, constituency chairmen and MPs who contested and equally represent the sentiments of the grassroots.

Justifying his stance, Mr Asante explained that during his tour with Dr Bawumia in the Eastern Region, MPs resorted to vote for him based on the demands of the grassroots.

“Nobody wins superdelegates and comes to lose at the main elections. Because the people who go to vote at the super delegates, go there with the inspiration of the grassroots delegates who tell them who to vote for. So, when there’s time for the grassroots, who constitute the larger number to vote, they won’t deviate and cast their votes in variance from who they sent you to vote for in the earlier election.”

Moreover, Mr Asante highlighted that constituency and regional chairmen went to vote for Dr Bawumia at the inspiration of the delegate and as such, it cannot be deemed as only a small percentage and not representative enough.

“… Then you reject the hypothesis and say the sample size is not too big, it is not representative enough. So, let’s still throw resources and go into the main election, when there’s a historical antecedent that you cannot decouple the results of a super delegates elections from the main elections…”

Call for open support for Dr Bawumia

The MD for Ghana Publishing company strongly advocated for the other four aspirants who have scaled through to the next phase of the elections to concede and support Dr Bawumia as the flagbearer for the NPP. He stated that although he believes in the democratic tenets, ideals and principles of the party, he is the last person to advocate that elections must be cancelled.

Moreover, Mr Asante emphasized that he does not seek to call for the truncation of the electoral process, however, he insisted that elections are won with numbers.

“… If 950 people go to vote, spread over sixteen regions, which constitutes sixteen polling centers and the party headquarters as a polling center, then if all the sixteen regions, one candidate wins convincingly in all the sixteen regions. In his own home region, in all modesty, the people of North East conferred 100% votes on Dr Bawumia, Northern Ghana, 94% voted for Bawumia, Ashanti region – the second largest region on the electoral commission’s radar as far as registered number of voters in Ghana are concerned, the candidate gets 82.2%, the party headquarters, secret ballots were casts and Dr Bawumia won convincingly over there.”

David Boateng Asante

Meanwhile, Mr Asante revealed that a larger call that what will happen on November 4 will be an overwhelming endorsement of Dr Bawumia’s candidature, emphasizing that the delegates won’t do otherwise. He further noted that it’s in the interest of most of these aspirants to support Dr Bawumia.

“… Every time there’s internal election, there are bound to be success, we need to sit down and make peace with one or two persons before we move to the main elections. I am speaking purely as a party person who believes in the unity of purpose with which we voted for Dr Bawumia. All I’m calling for is, let the party remain solid behind Dr Bawumia – that is the language the delegates spoke last weekend…”
