Ghanaian artist Desmond Kwesi Blackmore popularly known as D-Black in the entertainment industry has asserted that he has 12 businesses running in Ghana.

According to him, the first thing he started doing before getting into the music industry was advertising in marketing, adding that it helped him get money to invest in his music.

He further revealed that he started a record label after he opened a company called “Black Avenue Works”. “When I invested in music, I started a record label, “Black Avenue Musik”. So it was myself, Joey B, DJ Breezy, and that’s how I started that company”, D-Black said.

The rapper disclosed that he took a break from music in 2016 around the time Castro went missing and vented into events which is his third company “Live Wire Events”, where he organized one of Ghana’s biggest Boxing Fights at the Kumasi Sports Stadium between Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers, ‘Celebrity Soccer’, among others. This company produces social and corporate events.

Pointing out the businesses he has to his name, he stated that his fourth company is branding company which has the name “Volcano”.

The award-winning artists revealed the names of the companies he has to his name.

“I built ‘Club Onyx’, ‘Oasis Lounge’, ‘Casablanca Lounge’, ‘Frosty Moon’, ‘Twelve Scenes’, ‘La Maison’, and a food delivery business called ‘Just Order”, D-Black revealed. The club has also become a favorite nightlife joint with dozens of stars trooping in to have fun. Without a doubt, the rapper is making good money out of his companies.

According to tales of D-Black, he didn’t build his businesses and career on a silver platter.

The rapper stated that everyone has their own brand and path in life when it comes to collaborating with other artists, adding that he probably has an audience that the next artist doesn’t have.

“I’ve always been like that. When I was rapping, my first album was basically rap music in English. I got a lot of award nominations and traveled but I wasn’t making any money in the beginning. But as soon as I began to collaborate with artists who had a wider reach especially those who can make music in our local language”, he said.

He further revealed that he had his first collaboration with Kwabena Kwabena in 2010 and that was when he started getting recognized and played on radio stations that were not keen on playing English rap music because there was a little twist to how his songs were produced.

D-Black disclosed that after his collaboration with Kwabena Kwabena helped him to collaborate with other artists like D-Cryme, Sarkodie, Castro since they were talented individuals who the masses already appreciated.

“I didn’t a firm enough grass of the ‘Twi’ language to be able to make music rapping in ‘Twi’, so I was on my path in music. But I collaborated with other people who opened doors for me, then I became an established artist of my own, where I can now put music the way I wanted to put it out”, D-Black revealed.

He asserted that he realised he was never affected collaborating with other artists when he took what he was doing in music to business.

“Everybody got a shine; everybody got the love when we do music. All of us could perform those records on our platforms, and on our stages. So if I have a platform like this, I share with everyone so everybody can make money and everybody can make progress”, he disclosed.
