I’ve Zero Expectations – Edem

Bessa Simons and Edem respectively

Popular Ghanaian musician Denning Edem Hotor better known in showbiz circles as Edem, has asserted that he doesn’t believe the current crop of MUSIGA executives led by Bessa Simons has anything positive to offer the music industry and musicians.

The musician stated emphatically that he doesn’t expect anything from the newly elected executives because their work will be difficult to execute due to a lack of support from the central government.

“I’ve zero expectations from Bessa Simons because he failed and couldn’t do anything purposeful during his acting years as MUSIGA president, and the same results would be experienced in his entire tenure…” he said.

Edem further added that without laws from the central government that will back the works of the MUSIGA union, the union can’t do anything meaningful to support the industry and musicians.

According to him, the only thing that could change the fortunes of the industry is proper investment from investors and the government but they are currently lacking all of these.

As a reminder, Bessa Simons has been elected as the new president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), ending years of postponed elections that have plagued the organization.

Bessa Simons who had been serving as MUSIGA’s acting president, secured a total of 324 votes, defeating his sole rival, Ras Caleb, who received 66 votes during the election.

The election which saw participation from MUSIGA members across Ghana, brought several other executives into power, including Thomas Yawson as first vice president, Abena Ruthy as second vice president, and SK Agyemang as general secretary.

The rest are Eddie Eyison as the national treasurer, Gifty Ghansah as the national welfare officer, and Chizzy Wailer as the national organizer.

Seeking Advice From People With Familiarity

Edem shared valuable insights about seeking personal advice from people.

He highlighted that taking advice from people who are familiar with one’s personality and journey is important, as their advice tends to be tailored to one’s specific needs.

He suggested that, unless it’s professional advice, personal guidance should come from those who have an in-depth understanding of one’s experiences.

“Make sure you take advice from people who know your personality, who understand your journey. They will really give you objective advice. Unless, of course, it is professional, where the person has acquired a skill. But if it’s personal advice, they should know you,” he expressed.

Citing an example of a depressed person, the rapper indicated that one’s close friends will offer support differently as compared to someone who doesn’t even know the individual.

“A friend who knows you are depressed will treat you and advise you differently from somebody who doesn’t know you are depressed when you do certain things. And so the person who doesn’t know you are depressed will advise you based on their perception,” he stated.

He mentioned that some people’s advice is manipulative to the extent that they want an individual to do what they think is right in their sight.

“I feel that you should take personal advice from people who truly love you and know you. It comes from a very true place, especially in a time where people’s advice sometimes is also a way to manipulate you into doing what they think you should do,” he said.

Also, Edem emphasized that he has been forced to be more circumspect about his behavior and public image, as he aims to be a positive role model for his son.

He further added that his approach is centered practically, emphasizing the values he wants his children to learn.
